Octy 2 Estate rear wiper issue

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone else has this problem.

The rear wiper wont properly clear the section of the screen that lines with where the wiper arm connects to the wiper, its a strip in the centre about an inch wide. I have fitted a new blade but its made no difference. The dealer is saying I have somehow stretched the spring in the arm. I know I havent & the car has never been in a car wash, the only way I can think it would happen

Anyone else have similar issues ???

Thanks

Stuart

Not quite the rear wiper but my front passenger one has done the same a couple of times, each time necessitating replacement wipers. I put it down to these new aero wipers where the pressure of the arm is being exerted on them in only one place - where it joins the arm - compared to the old metal-frame style ones where the load was spread more evenly across the arm.

Quite a few compaints about this on the estate. It is the blade at fault not the wiper arm.

I tried three different blades before I got one that worked properly!

Any more evidence on this. I had tried a new blade, The dealer is telling me the spring in the arm has been stretched somehow & as its classed as damage its not covered by warranty so I have to pay.

Anyone else care to post who has the same problem

I've always had problems with the rear aero wiper blades, both of my previous Mk2 Octavias and my curent Superb Estate have CRAP rear wipers. Its as if the natural curve of the blade causes the problem, maybe the spring in the wiper arm isn't strong enough by design.

The only thing I can suggest is to compare it to the arm of another car at the dealership in an attempt to convince them it isn't your doing.

Oh, and how the hell would you stretch the spring? an inspection should prove otherwise.

My thoughts, initial comment was its car washes that do it, my car never goes near a car wash so they conceded on that, It would appear that someone unknown to us all has bent the arm back when I wasnt aware of it & stretched the spring. I cant believe a comment like that over a £24 part. I will be on the forcourt when I get 5 mins looking at the estates they have floating around

Mine has never been in a carwash but I have the same problem. Given that a new blade makes no difference then it must be the spring or wiper arm not being up to the job. I think that is a design issue and all the comments sort of point in that dorection too.

Mine was fine for about ayear / 30,000 miles then slowly developed the issue hense I assumed the blade, changed it & its no different

Common problem on the estates. Mine does it, a new blade cures it for about a week and then it starts again. The best I can come up with is keeping the rear screen clean and treating it with RainX - the wiper seems to work better then.

IMO the spring in the arm isn't strong enough, or the springiness of the blade is too strong - one or the other.

Have exactly the same problem, changed the blade was OK for a short while then the problem came back :-(

Yep--

Same with mine --utter rubbish!

Was wondering if any other VW group wiper arms would clip on?

--or whether i could somehow adapt a front blade refill to fit?

-anyone managed a mod?

I changed mine for a Bosch blade, it has the Bosch logo on the plastic end clip.

I heard the OEM blade is also Bosch but no logo?

Either way the Bosch blade I have on is working great.

I have exactly the same issue with a Superb estate. I replaced the blade and the problem persisted straight away. I even wondered whether the window itself has a slight imperfection but given that Octavia estates have a similar problem it must be the blade. Are the blades the same for both models? I'll try the Bosch blade recommended above but I fail to see why I should fork out again after the replacement was obviously not up to the job...

Mine has had the glass treated with something or waxed by the previous owner and as a result the wipers don't so much wipe as smear.

I have a noticeable line down the middle where the screenwash flows and presumably has removed some of the product used on the glass.

I changed the arm on mine as the spring had lost it's springiness. It made it better but not brilliant.

I've got a very similar problem and have been trying to bend the actual wiper into a better shape.

I've had some success, but it only seems to last a few days before it needs bending again.

Same problem with mine, soon as the weather gets bad and spray builds up the wiper stops working. Didn't work when i bought the car last January then 2 months later it started working and was fine all spring/summer, soon as the weather then started to get worse, i think the beginning of November it then started to intermittently stop mid sweep, or did not work at all, i guess it'll be fine again in 2 months time and normal operation commence once more....
