It's a good thing for emissions.

Once every other week, drive the car at 3-4k revs (in whatever gear) for about 10-15 minutes when the car is already at the normal operating temperature. Sounds noisy when you first do it, but that'll sort the DPF. Did this for over 20k in my tdci C-Max (as instructed) and never had an issue (or soot out of the rear)

DPF does nothing for the cars performance. Just stops particulates so no smoke out the exhaust making the tree hugging hippies happy.

How to drive it ? Doesnt matter, the CR engine takes care of the DPF itself and you can forget revving the balls off it to keep the DPF clear, you just cant reach the temps needed without regen. The only problem you may have is too many short runs prevents the DPF clearing itself that 'may' put the DPF light on meaning you need a longer run.

Had my Fabia with DPF for 50,000 miles. Never given the DPF a second thought, never had the light come on and thats on a PD engine not as good at managing regen like your CR engine.

My advice, drive the car and ignore the DPF...unless the light comes on

I agree with raisbeck just ignore it unless the dpf warning light comes on. I do and have never seen the dpf warning light in the 4000 miles I`ve done. Only symptom I notice is the 1000 tickover til the regen is over. You will also get a 1000 tickover on cold days. Driving at 3-4k sounds very high. I drive home at 1800rpm (60mph).

Thanks guys for advice.....

the DPF is a bad thing as restrictive and expensive when they go wrong but unfortunately EU laws mean all modern Diesels have to have them.

had my monte since november, never even noticed a regen really, the light has come on once but went to get on the motorway to clear it and the light went off on the slip road on so never even had to do what it says in the manual either.

Hi, I use my car for driving instruction and never get to drive at any reasonable speed for any length of time where I live.

Occasionally I get the '1000 rpm' happen and have wondered what this was. If and when this happens, do I need to continue driving until normal tickover rpm resumes or is it ok just to end my journey/lesson whilst tickover is at 1000rpm?

Many thanks for any advice you can give me.

MilgeS the 1000 tickover could be the cold weather we had in January or a dpf regen.

Even if it is a regen you can end your journey as normal and the regen will resume the next time you take the car out. No need to worry unless you see the dpf warning light. Then it would be a good idea to do motorway travel at 4th gear 2000rpm until the light goes out. Never seen the dpf warning light myself.
