Insurance renewal, no claims years eroded !

Featured Replies

It's that time of year again and I have to renew my car insurance.

I was with Aviva this time, I don't think I'll be "automatically" renewing as it always costs more than shopping around for a new insurer.

I had a good 10+ years no claims bonus when I went with Aviva last year, and sent them proof.

On the renewal it now says 5 years !

I've noticed that the maximum no claims discount from some insurers differs, 5 years, 7 years, 9 years.

So how do I get all of my hard earned 10+ years back from Aviva ?

I have disposed of old paperwork.

Is there a national database that keeps records ?

Never easy is it ?

As them to send you a letter confirming the level of NCB you came to them with.

In my experience most insurers recognise maximum NCB at 5 years.

Feel free to give us a try for a quotation:

Thanks Ollie, I will.

I am looking for an insurer who will not get hysterical when I go for a Revo Stage 1 remap. (Stock vehicle, no other upgrades planned)

I had a remapped Octy II 2.0 TDI (140) and Admiral were sensible with their pricing, particularly at renewal. So much so that I was with them for three years. I'll be changing next time round though as they're quite expensive for the Superb.

I've just swapped from Aviva and had the same problem. I just asked them to send proof of my full NCB and they duly did, stating I had 7 years NCB when I joined them. I now have 8 years NCB, but the premiums still seem to go up every year :wall:

Generally it makes no difference once you get to 5 years, typically you hit a NCD of around 65% and thats it regardless of how many years NCD you have. I have never made a claim and been driving 27 years, and yet still only get 65% off.

Yes this is an annoying one, Kwik-Fit were unwilling to confirm the number of years I had driven without a claim, they would only state 9 years, which was their maximum beyond which they give no further NCD. Now I can understand if they believe someone with 30 years without claim is no less a risk than someone with 9 years, but there is no saying that they, or other companies, will not change their mind in future. At which point they go - “Sorry you only have 9 yrs NCD, now if you could provide evidence of 15 years we could have offered you a better deal”
