Columbus parking display

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone please help me, I have an 08 OCatvia VRS TDI and had the columbus fitted by Autotronics in Leicester. On the original stream unit, when you put the car into reverse a picture of the car appeared with bars to show the distance to things behind you.

I have checked with Skoda and they have said the columbus will do this on my car but Autotronics cannot seem to get it working, can anyone help with what coding should they use?

The unit works fine. If they cannot get it going properly I will return it. what other units would you use?

its not straight forward, you either need a new PDC controller or Can Gateway, unless the car is a facelift then its not going to work out of the box.

You will not miss the display anyway, and no aftermarket unit will give you the display. When I did a retrofit into my old 2005 Octavia, I missed the display for 5 minutes. The benefits of the columbus far outway the minor niggle of losing the on screen display as you still have the beeps.

I saw a post on vwnavi I think where someone had done this. He needed a new PDC controller and had to run 2 wires(CAN High/Low) from that controller down the the CAN gateway. So it's do-able but not something you can do via VCDS coding.

As mentioned though, is it really worth the effort?

Yep, I've seen a couple of articles on how to do this too....so it is certainly possible but it would be a lot of effort and expense. I know it's frustrating to have parking sensors and a head unit capable of visually displaying them (that's the situation I'm in too) but I just can't justify the time/cost simply to get a visual display on my Columbus. If it was a quick and easy job, I'd do it....but it isn't - so I haven't :)

Look in the mirrors - far safer :giggle:

I can't remember the last time I used my display..........

+1 reversing sensors don't show you the child about to run past back of car.
