INSURANCE!

Its that time of year again and i thought i had nothing other to do than to search on here and get a better quote than lv had given to me .

How wrong can you be Chris Knott contacted and they only deal with one company who would quote me on what they call a substancial power increase remap (130bhp to 170bhp) fabia vrs i didnt think this was a massive upgrade.

Called Adrian Flux and told the staff member straight away i was only looking for a quote and was not committing straight away at the end of the call when i thanked him for his time and told him i would get back to him his attitude changed and he just put phone down whilst making a"humph" noise.

I have tried all the big companies and they give you a quote then when you go into with the staff who know nothing about mods it all changes Admirl were happy with the remap but said as i had a front upper strut brace and a rear anti rollbar that increased the risk of my flipping the car as it is only people who rally their cars that fit these items (phone down by me this time making the humph sound).

I dont live in a high risk area im 47 yrs and have been driving accident free since i was 17 a family man with a young family who treats his car like another child and as we have found out on another thread i appear to be one of the older drivers of Fabia vrs with mods how the hell do you younger people afford the premiums

Ive been quoted £428 comp by lv which is not that bad but they cannot better it as if i start again with them to get a better quote there system tells them that they will not now insure me owing to new policy changes but as my policy is live they will keep it running.

Rant over

Anything greater than a 30% increase will stick you in a higher risk group with some insurers.

Have you had it on a RR?

What was the actual power after the remap?

Hi

Its not been on a rolling road and have no plans to put it on one.

It looks like LV have trapped me for this year

Seems a little bit steep, but as mentioned above, soon as the power goes over 30% increase, it's more risk for them.

I'm 43 with plenty of NC, but still paying £430 with all the mods. My power hike was only about 15% though.

Is your car a BLT? They have a little more power as standard (150nish bhp so I've heared ), so as long as you can convince your insurer of this (or provide standard RR vs mapped results) then your 30% increase becomes 13%.

Valid rant.

It's the ignorance to what modifications are, and the effects they have to your car that annoys me. I never call it an 'anti-roll bar', as they always think 'rollcage'.

My ARB is always referred to as a sway away bar - that's what it said on the packet!

My favourite two quotes from renewal time this year:

"It's got a sway away bar, uprated bushes & a front strut brace." I say;

"OK, so how much is it lowered by?"

"Errrrmmm... It's not."

But the best by far was from Endsleigh, where obviously their sales rep didn't even want to bother taking my details:

"Can I have a quote for my modified car please?" As their web advert says they cover them:

"Ok, (with a hrmmph) but we're not very competitive.."

:wonder:

I've worked in the industry. Never again..

At 168bhp it is below that 30% increase, so it may be worth doing so.

When 110bhp (AHF) Golfs were mapped, the maps were declared at 143bhp so as not to exceed 30%.

I've been with flux for 3 years now and I've found them faultless !

Wasn't impressed with my renewal this year though so phoned sky who beat it then went back to flux and they beat their quote ! Result :D

Don't be afraid to haggle as much as possible ;)

It is a sad fact that loyalty counts for nothing.

You have to play one off against another even if you've been with the same firm for years!
