vRS internal rear squeaking noises

Featured Replies

Hi, has anyone else noticed any squeaking noises from their octy II hatch when going over bumps? It comes from the rear of the car.

I thought it might be the parcel shelf moving about but it seems pretty solid and secure, and the same for the rear seats.

Any ideas??

Hello,

Mine has only done this once so far as I'm aware & it was on a particularly cold morning.

If I recall correctly, the squeaking seemed to come from low down & behind me on my side & became less noticeable as the car warmed up.

I can only assume that it was a piece of trim or maybe the edge of the rear bench - which is leather-faced & therefore prone to squeakiness - rubbing which had maybe shrunk in the sub-zero temperatures?

I haven't noticed it since anyway.

If the squeaking sounds more substantial or appears to come from deeper within the car you might be wise to get the suspension looked at, just in case.

You don't have anything in the boot which is loose I suppose?

Good luck anyway.

Mine was the same. As above it seems to be the seat materiel rubbing off other trim. It's not really leather so that doesn't help. You could try some sticky backed felt around the area maybe.

if its internal creaking then check the door seal rubbers... thats what it was on mine, wiped them with some meths seems to have quietened it down loads and just got this stuff

Einszett Gummi Pflege Stift off eBay

mine sounded like a budgie in the hatch every time I went over a speed hump....I then happened to put the seats down to take something large, I put the seats back up and the noise went.....so, have you tried to putting the seats down and back again and see if it goes?

Go on to (octavia vrs.com) look under tech index, it lists common problems .... this is one of them you can replace the seals with a modified part....mine does it really bad ive only just had it .....i originally thought it was the leather seats.....

Cheers for the replies, I'll take a closer look :)

Mine does this, actually I thought it was coming from the seats, but I may try dropping the seats to see if the noise goes away.

Mine makes the same noise, its definately the rear seats on mine, just lifted the seat bases and noise has totally stopped. Obviously cant stay like that, so anyone any ideas on what to do to stop the noise when I put the seats back as normal. Leather treatment, talc? or any other suggestions. cheers

In my experience, rear seat side bolsters (the bit between the back set and the door) creaks. Also, check the rear seat belt buckles (very suprising how much noise these make). Just open the back door (dont sit in the seat) and move them gently around to check.

I sprayed mine with loads of silicon polish and worked fine.

I have discovered what has been causing the rattling/squeaking...!

After getting the missus to drive up and down the same bit of road while I sat in the back with the seats folded down, I was able to eliminate the parcel shelf, seats, spare wheel and boot carpet as causing the problem and I traced the noise to the trim on the inside of the boot lid.

In fact, I could clearly see it vibrating and moving when going over rough sections of road. The plastic is of the cheap, hard, brittle variety and does not appear very substantial. By contrast, the rest of the interior is really solid and well put together.

Just have to work out how it can be fixed now....

Problem solved!

Wound down the two rubber bump stops on the edge of the boot so that it presses harder down onto the sill and does a better job of damping when closed :)

Brings to mind the famous story Spike Milligan used to tell of being bundled into the boot of one of Peter Sellers' many cars to look for an elusive squeaking noise..
