Worried........

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Just been reading previous posts bout air intakes/filters/induction kits. I have bought a k&n Ind. kit but am worried that i have made the wrong choice as many people seem to say that this causes problems?

This is my first Skoda and indeed diesel engined car. Taking that into consideration and ,forgetting about the k&n Induction kit i have, can anyone give me any pointers as to what would be the best place to start in the modification process and what items would be best to buy?

Thanks for all you help again.

Its just that if you imagine you are stuck in trafiic on a hot summers day for example, the 57i can only draw air from the hot engine bay which is not good for performance. So any performance gain that you might have from less restrictive intake will be lost.

Many people on here including me have gone for the Cupra intake and cotton gauzetype filter in the airbox.

At the end of the day fitting it isnt going to harm your engine, it could reduce performance, it might not? It could make a nice meaty sound, it might not...

Give it a try :)

I on the other hand have a green panel filter and cupra pipe... :D

So whats so different about the cupra intake pipe then compared to the standard fabia one?

You can get your entire fist down a cupra intake, and only a few fingers into a standard oem intake.... Much more room for air to get in. :D

So are these pretty easy to install and how much we talking roughly?

Thanks guys, ive got the instructions on the site now. Feel like a right muppet hehe!

What would you suggest after the intake/filter?

Hybrid turbo conversion, full remap, and nos... :D

Or the sensible options would be to look at its weak points... Breaks, suspension etc

Yes, SEAT Sport Upper Strut Brace, or "antishock reinforcing bar" as they like to call it. Try a search, there's loads of info on here about it. It's also a worthwhile mod, and cheap to buy and fit

Does this green (or K&N) filter offer any real advantages over a stock filter when clean? I cant see it making all that much difference myself.

Depends how far you wanna go. If you dont want to spend much, a tuning box would be good, the brakes arent that bad on this motor if used right, and the suspension also seems to get better, I can drive this car at silly speeds if required and it always feels pretty safe to me, back end can get a bit light under heavy braking, and understeer is slightly prominent at lower speeds & wetter conditions.

If you want to sort that out, I reckon better brake pads for optimal braking performance, and eibach suspension / coilovers will reduce diving and understeer.

As it is, the std car would take another 30 bhp and not feel too bad if driven right IMO. Get the tuning box, biggest grin for your money.

Once the air intake / filter is sorted out, then its time to free up where the air is ejected from, i.e. the exhaust. ;) A full decat and posh backbox may not be the best option but its one I've taken and thoroughly enjoy.

I suspect it makes hardly any difference at all when both are clean. I think the advantages come in that the Green stays cleaner for longer so you get more consistent performance, as well as being washable. At the end of the day, you're unlikely to notice a real difference by switching, other than a slight increase in induction "roar" :D

So which Green Filter do i get? Ive looked on Demon tweeks etc etc and they only list a Green replacement filter fot the 1.9 64hp and the 1.9 TDI 100hp??

It's the 1.4 green filter, it did make mine more responsive and the cumulative effects when remapped with the cupra intake are approximately 10 bhp.

Right, so demon tweeks have 4 1.4l types of Green replacement filters!!!

Which one is it? Dont they make a specific filter for the vRS?

The issue with any type of oiled air filter is "over Oiling" Under high airflow, the oil is sucked from the filter surface into the intake and fouls the MAF in many cases beyond economical repair. So long as the filter hasn't been over oiled, problems should be minimal aside from the cool air flow issues as mentioned elsewhere in the thread.
