Glow plug light not coming on and car not starting

Featured Replies

I have a MK I Skoda Octavia GLX March 2000, 132000 on the clock

I have great service from this chariot. It has not let me down until recently.

The problem I have I think might be electrical.

My symptoms are:

On turning car over the glow plug light dosnt come on and the car dosnt start. It turns over but contiues to turn over but dosnt fire.

I took it to the garge last week - we started towing it over but on the way to the garage I managed to jump start it. Of course when it got to the garage it was ok. The garage kept it for a week and of course it started every time.

I got it back for 1 day and the problem reoccurred. No glow light and the vehicle failed to start. During the day the wife had the car out. Whilst driving, the car stuttered as if it was stalling, the glow light came on briefly then recovered.

So now its another trip back to the garage I will not jump start it.

Does anyone on this forum have any ideas where to start with this.

I am pretty sure its not the battery as that has been checked out.

thanks

The glow plug light should only come on while the glowplug are doing their magic and unless it is cold they the light will only appear brielfly. I am pretty sure the light will not come on while the engine is trying to turn over.

If the car won't start, then then checks would be:

- fault codes

- battery voltage ok / starter motor spinning fast enough

- immobiliser not causing issues

- CTS (for dodgy readings).

What have external temps been like when the car behaves/misbehaves?

If the glow plug light doesn't come on at all it could be the 109 relay as that causes all kinds of random problems as it effects the power supply to the ECU.
