Hi all

My mk1 vrs has developed a worrying problem. Once the engine has warmed up and I try to give it anymore than half throttle I lose all power and get loud spluttering from the exhaust. The engine management light has not come on and my local vag garage has done a fault scan which turns up nothing either.

I have left her with the garage for more checks to be done tomorrow but any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Oh prob better mention the car is a 2002 vrs with fmic, cai, 4 bar fpr, turbo back ss exhaust and stage 2 amd map. Think that covers all the engine mods. Have been running with this set up for a while now and up until now has been sweet

Have you tried some fuel cleaner? maybe a blocked injector or fuel filter? not having much experience of FMIC's i would start with the simple stuff. Had something similar with my sierra, turned out blockage on carb, was old 2.0 pinto. just an idea.

but sure the more techie guys will know about FMIC's and the other bits.

Hmmm ??? It may not be but i always suspect the maf

Typical thing to play up but fingers crossed some mechanical folk shall join in

Turbo?

Temp sender or maf? Plugs aswell maybe? Know anyone with vcds? Might be worth checking all the sensors with it

Try with the MAF unplugged and see if thats the problem. It almost sounds like its sending unburnt fuel into the exhaust though which is usually a timing or coilpack problem.

Sounds like a coil pack might be popping up.

Thanks as always for your help guys. Turned out to be a coil pack which is now changed and threw on a nice new set of plugs and problem solved :-)
