Does this FARB bush look too worn?

Featured Replies

This was taken today and thought the gap between the bush and the bar itself to be huge, but to put in context, the opposite front wheel is up on a ramp with this side being supported with a trolley jack so mad articulation of the suspension.

Any thoughts much appreciated, the car has recently passed an MOT and a Skoda dealer inspection with no faults found but handling is pretty poor (not expecting Ferrari esk handling) there is the odd clunk (not always when turning and on some bumps. Tie rods seem o.k. as do the drop links.

It should really be tight to the bar when the car is on the ground otherwise you get corrosion on the bar where it goes through the bush and the first you'll know about it is when the bar breaks and you get an annoying clonking over bumpy roads.

Yup looks fubard to me!

Powerflex time!!

I dont know how sticky the MOT people are, but here in ROI, that would fail an NCT (our equivelent to MOT) looks to me like it be worth changing them.

cheers fellas, i suspected as much but just thought the mad loads and angles the suspension was under at the time was stretching it. But hey good excuse to powerflex as you say Big Jase :giggle:

They probably wouldn't even check it on a UK mot as its not a part which is vital to the safety of the suspension and steering, if it fails the worst that can happen is the front end becomes really sloppy handling-wise.

with the car on the ground (or a fourpost ramp) grab hold of the ARB and try to move it side to side across the vehicle. Mine looked like that and you could move it with two fingers :D the knocking sound I was getting was the arb had moved across to the right and was hitting the pancake pipe.

So MOT guys are less painful than NCT ... if only the certs were cross border recognised! they failed both my previous cars for ARB bushes being "worn"..... :@

and its worth it for them, as they can claim a full suspension retest on account of the Bushes, so get to charge the retest fee!
