Nikon J1 with an FT1 Adaptor

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I've ordered myself up a Nikon J1 and the lens adaptor to use my Pro Nikon stuff with.

I intend using it during weddings as it's mirror-less, so I can use it in churches where currently shutter's are not allowed.

I do think i got a cracking deal on it - QuidCo gave me £12 "CashBack" - Jacobs had 5% off last week, and Nikon have it with £50 cash-back too! - £318 including the cash-back's see's me with a J1 and a 10-30mm lens.

I fancied the V1, but to be honest, couldnt see where the HUGE extra cost is. (yes i know, it's mirror or mirror-less and has a bigger batter)

It'll also be used as my "Holiday" camera - which should get it's 1st outing next week! - Will report back!

ps. There is a 2.7x crop-factor on Full-Frame Sensors and the 1 series, so it should make my 70-200mm VR 2.8 lens a BEAST!

Who says shutters aren't allowed in churches? I've never had a problem yet... Admittedly I'm quite frugal when shooting during the ceremony though.

I used the J1 a while back and I'm sure you won't be disappointed, it's a great camera :sun:

I got told of for shooting in a ceremony once .

no one likes the sound of 9fps from a D3s..........

Should be here tomorrow and will report back - we have a few churches i shoot around here, and they wont even let the photographer or videographer in, let alone shoot anything! - My customers are not impressed from time to time! - we do have the odd church, that does not allow photography because of the noise, but do allow the video!

On another note... i had a D4 on pre-order that came in a few weeks back... i turned it down, due to the additional battery cost and mem cards! - But now, Nikon have raised it's price, by a whopping £500! Thanks Mr Nikon, but i will have onto my D3, D3x and D3s's for a while yet...!

I've never been told off for taking pictures at appropriate moments! I do generally ask the vicar / minister / registrar prior to the wedding day about their preferences. Maybe that's why they don't seem to mind.

If you are shooting at 9fps it's no wonder you got told off!

I'm curious, why are you shooting at 9fps during the ceremony anyway?

Bracketing?

Ok Folks, 9fps during church or any service is a bit rich, but it's upto the couples we are working for also.

I shoot mainly weddings, and it's my full-time occupation, taking on around 45 per year (52 last year which was a bit much by the end of the year) and have done this full-time for the past 6 years, so kind-of know what it's all about. I've never been "told off" and always consult with the vicar etc. before the service starts. - I do however, feel it could be off-putting to a bride and groom to be "clicked" at during their special moments - the D3s has a "Quiet" mode, which does not make much difference either...

I dont bracket, and use manual throughout, as this is the way i was brought up.

Anyway, the J1 and FT1 arrived today, after updating firmware, it's working like a charm! - Altho does look a little out of place with a 70-200 VR on!

I'll have a play with it during the week, and will shoot it in anger (along side my "real" kit of course) at the weekend.

I work press, my camera is STUCK on 9fps. Also it sounds badass ;)

I will be interested to hear what you make of its low-light capabilities re noise, colour etc.

The small sensor and optimistic ISO will challenge its processors.

I was told off for using flashing in a ceremony.

If it was Catholic the Priest wouldn't have minded...
