hello, whats the difference ??

Featured Replies

hello all, I have been visiting this site for several weeks and I felt the time was right to register.

Have been a forum member before with Saabscene  and then laterally with BMW car club

However my 320d is now up for sale, it has a boot you cannot swing a cat in :thumbdwn: (sorry if thats not PC) .

So last week persuaded the missus to come for a test drive in an octavia VRS :) I am both impressed and smitten !! Although it is not as quick as I thought it would be, but that could be down to me previously testing some SAAB Aeros. I think the 225bhp upgrade at star performance (only 10 mins away) would be first point of call.

But my question the 1.8T VW engine comes in lots of guises 150,180,225 :D ... What is the difference ? is it different turbos or is it simply just the engine management system ?

Thanks, and well done on a great site :)

Welcome to Briskoda. :)

Octavias use the 1.8T in 150 and 180bhp form. Apart from a few minor components, post-2000 engines are identical and the difference in power output is down to the ECU. Remapping either will give much the same final figure.

There is more technical information in the FAQ below:

Welcome to Briskoda. vRS is a good choice indeed :)

Welcome!some people are running ridiculous bhp's on here! Some of the saabs are rather tasty though I must say.

Octavia vRS boot is built for swinging herds of cows in.Loads of space!

And the boot adds just the right amount of weight on the rear to make it's handling sublime...

Members have Octy vRS's from 150 (as sold in India) to 420+ (as dreamed of by many).

Pop along to a tuner and your 320d will feel quite slow, a mild remapping of the Octy vRS pulls away on 330d's.

You might feel the interior after the "luxury" brands, but it's half the price and actually very good. The only thing thats broken for me in three years is of my own monkey hands when installing a clip.

Saab's are nice, Jim will be able to convince you otherwise ;)

Do we have an equivalent guide for the TDI engines?

DGS, thanks for reply..it all makes sense,, how easy is it to fit a KO4 turbo ? also I have a nice big saab aero front mount intercooler doing nowt in garage, oh nooo its started already.... I have a friend on saabscene who had his saab 9k aero dyno'd at 485bhp buthe had to spend serious money to get his car there. Can I assume that the 1.8t engine and turbo have no probs with the 225bhp, also if the KO3 turbo is slightly smaller it should be quicker as the spool up time will be less ?

all these ????? soooo little time

Thanks

What is it with signing on to Briskoda and that looooong slippery slope to upgrades :D ......it's catching

Generally consensus is that the K04 requires some work to get good gains over a K03S.

K03S typically has better low down pull as it spins up quicker....K04 generally will give a bit better gain higher up and hold longer.

No probs with 220bhp+ but once you start to get to 300bhp it's probably wiser to start thinking about better clutch and perhaps gearbox.
