new alloys for le octy

Featured Replies

finally got rid of those cr£ppy monza's & now have fox fx004's with vred's all round .

got from ade's auto design in bedford . top man even sorted out skoda decals for the centre caps without being asked. dont know if stainless valve stems is standard on fox alloys but have a set of them on there as well

looks almost the same so have kept original look but now have decent alloys

Pictures?

I would of kept the originals over the Fox wheels though

I would have gone for some second hand OE wheels over a set of cheap aftermarket wheels, but each to their own.

i couldn't find any oe multi spoke alloys. so to keep the limited edition look got aftermarkets. oe wheels means it would look like everyother vrs

hence aftermarkets

alredy buckled one original monza not throwing any more money down drain for next buckled alloy. jct 12 M1 roads are like a ploughed field so could easily happen again especially at night

Look quite good!

+1 , needs to be lower though

Very nice. Look great.

Good looking rim protection band on those tyres!

Not a fan of the LE alloys but these are an improvement, especially if they are tougher!

Fox alloys? Blimey, didn't know they were still in business.

Quite like the look of them, but wouldn't be that sure they'd be any better made than what you've replaced? What made you go for them out of interest, aside from trying to keep the same look?

Do Turinis count?? :)

i went to to a guy in bedford who specialises in this stuff ( you know what i mean shop full of alloys & performance stuff) & asked his opinion i wanted a more robust alloy but keeping the same look . he spoke about certain rims being softer & buckling as soon as you hit a large pothole, etc & losing tyre pressure straight away & obviously rims that will take the initial hit but may lose tyre pressure at a later time ( overnight , etc). i said i wanted the harder ones as i had already buckled one monza. opinions will vary on this subject but i asked a professional & if he is talking cr'#p i know where his shop is & will soon be down there.

i await the debate on his story about soft & hardened alloys

Did you damage your LE alloys? Ive read a lot of people have but I havnt had a single problem with 20k miles.

Fair play. Hope they serve you well

after spending all that money on rims & boots any mention of lowering would only involve my height at around shoulder height by swmbo if yo know what i mean lol

We got our wheels refurbished from The Wheel Restorer in Wrexham - did a top job. Ours had buckled quite seriously, and the car doesn't isn't even "driven hard" so to speak, with a relatively low mileage. We also discovered that the original Continental tyres don't wear well. But as for the job the guy did, excellent - really makes the car look like new now and it is handling much better with improved ride and handling once again.

So there is always the option of keeping it OEM (or as OEM as the Ltd Edition is!) if you're not keen on changing the design of the wheels completely - just putting it out there.

I haven't had any issues with my LE wheels either (buckling). I have just had them refurbished though as previous owner had put a few scuffs on them. The place i bought it from wouldn't discount any money for the wheels, so agree to pay to have them refurbished...... only they had just spray painted on top of original paint without prepping or priming the wheels first. Needless to say all the paint flaked off. So luckily under warranty, i got them powder coated with an awesome finish.

All alloys are soft and susceptible to buckling if you hit a big enough pot hole; especially with low profile tyre's, they don't offer much shock absorbing properties!

LE alloys more than most unfortunately. They're cheap wheels that have been made in China, they retail for around £80 each in some places. They are slightly softer than most and of course have lots of thin, relatively weak spokes. Standard vRS alloys are reportedly stronger and of course have a thicker structure to them in the form of chunky spokes. Never had another car where the alloys have buckled, but it's certainly worth getting them restored. And of course, larger wheels are more susceptible anyway.

Those look rather sweet. Black Neptunes next for moi, old LE wheels will get some winter tyres and I'll pop in a set of Black Neptunes been mulling it over for a while. I have suffered from a deformed nearside front on my LE, in fact many of us have. Cheap crappy wheels IMHO, a testament to how good the rest of the car is that it is a small blip on ownership for me.

How much did 4 of these with the Skoda logo set you back old chap?

As of tomorrow I've got a good set of LE's up for grabs. With good tyres.. I don't like the style. Each to there own

I'm based outside Edinburgh if anyone wants to pop along and make an offer.
