KTL/Kudos Remapping, anybody?

Featured Replies

Yes I'm afraid its another remapping topic but please stick with me!

Towards the end of last year I bought myself one of these, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290654238877, which, for a cheap little item, has improved the economy (avg +5mpg than standard) but without putting it on a rolling road can't be sure how much extra power and torque its giving me. Plus can't get it out of my head if its doing more harm than good.

Have been considering Celtic and Angel Tuning (Shark tuning is a bit too far out of my way lviing in South Wales) for the remap and DPF bypass mod but this morning managed to find a company based nearby in Swansea that do the necessary, and, judging from the response to my enquiry, they do it pretty reasonably too. The price I have been quoted is £450 all-in for DPF removal and a power & economy map, with gains of up to 25% above standard to be expected.

The company is KTL Remapping Wales (http://www.ktlremappingwales.com/) and is a Kudos Remapping franchise, but I have never heard of either, so I was wondering if anybody on here has?

If so, are they a decent remapping company with a solid reputation or should I stay well clear?

The 9 comments on the feedback tab make pleasant enough reading and settle the mind a little but cos I'm shelling out best part of £500 I want to be sure.

Cheers

James

The ebay analogue device is a good one and I know of a tuning company that used this very supplier.

If your not going to travel to someone who has a lot of experience of tuning your vrs I would go for a digital tuning box such as tunit or dtuk.

I believe the dtuk stage 2 device alters the fuel and boost pressures which is quite sophisticated.

In Germany a very reputable tuning company MTM uses a similar device to great effect.

I think these companies both offer good warranties so you could buy, try and return if your not satisfied.

I believe many digital tuning boxes give similar or better results than generic stage 1 remaps.

I hope this helps?

Cheers for the information John, much appreciated.

I have also had a quote from GotBoost Performance in Bridgend. They've quoted £499 +VAT for full an ECU remap with before and after dyno testing and diagnostics, plus DPF removal, including removing and gutting the original DPF, rewelding and refitting.

This is a Stage 1 remap and they expect to achieve approx 35bhp and 45 lbsft of torque. If the car was a DSG then they could get better figures but its a 2006 PD engined version so I don't think I can get better figures.

I'll look into the 2 tuning boxes that you mention.

Hi Jimbob,

When they quote these figures very often the vrs makes over 170bhp. So for example if your car makes 185 bhp it doesn't jump up to 220 bhp!
