Drain holes in front doors

Featured Replies

I have a steep drive at my home and I usually reverse up to park my 2012 Fabia Greenline Estate. When I open the front doors some mornings I get quite a stream of water from a centre plastic bung hole - two other slots at either end of door do not seem to drip any water. I understand changing the door angle releases the water but what does this hole connect to - I assumed that the window rubber would keep out most water - is this normal for a Fabia - I'm concerned about possible internal door rusting over the long term. TIA.

I have the same issue... even after just washing the car

So i think its been designed like it :/

same here... whenever I get heavy rain I get a nice stream of water

i also park on a slight slope and again, when i open the door, the car has a little pish on the drive

ive asked and apparently its normal although i have the same reservations as you

i get this too! so annoying after washing and polishing, then open door and water runs all over!! grrrrrrr

My Monte Carlo really accumulates water when parked ever so slightly downhill. Called the dealer and they are having it in. It looks to me that as the door shuts, it pushes the rubber door seal over the drain hole. When you open the door, the seal moves out of the way and releases the water. Can't be good for the electrical gubbins inside the door.

My previous 08 Fabia had 3 drain holes in the front doors and water drained out OK. My new 2011 Fabia only has 2 drain holes. One in the middle of the front doors and one at the rear of the front doors if that makes sense. Same on the passenger side.

So it seems that the design has been changed but I agree, water gathering inside the door cavity can't be good.

Would be interested if anyone has already reported this to their Skoda dealer and what they said or did about it. Thanks.

I wonder if Skoda themselves would care to comment on this!? I have the same problem and Ive always thought along the lines of "oh, good idea to drain water like that"....Didnt think about internal rusting! a good point well made.

the doors will have an external wall where all the water can collect and drain from and internal one where all the eletrics are. so i doubt the electrics are ever in contect with water

I contacted Skoda Customer Services about this and got the following reply:

I am happy to confirm that your vehicle will suffer no detriment as a result of the location of the drain

holes.

The latest variant of the Fabia features door drain holes which are positioned slightly higher than previous model years, which

I believe accounts for the fact that you did not notice the water escaping from the doors of your previous Fabia.

The vehicle's bodywork and electrical mechanisms housed in the door will not be affected. Water will collect in the doors in

rainy weather, and will drain out through holes when the doors are opened. The escaping water is more noticeable when the

vehicle is parked on an incline, as the drainage is accelerated by gravity, and mildly heightened pressure. This is no cause for

concern; on the contrary, it is visible evidence that the drainage system in the door is behaving as it should.

So no problems then.

Cars have had drain holes in doors for many decades, its when they block up you need to worry!

Exactly. At least it's not leaking in like the Mk1
