Planning on selling my heavily modded K04 Octavia

Badges mean nothing to me really. VW and Audi have an arguably better interior, but that's all down to personal taste.

I'm just wondering if it's worth it for you, to effectively build the same car twice?

No, like all modding there is an element of lunacy...financially it is a lot of lost money.....but I am 43, spend 2 hours per day in my car, was forced to drive a Fiat Multipla by an ex-wife who then took me for a load of money in a divorce and feel that I am owed my mid-life crisis....and a car that I can enjoy during that commute. :smirk:

  • Thanks for the quick responses folks. I fully take the point about not getting the money back for the mods but I have to be honest and say that I always knew that this would be the case. It was done f

  • Nice car. I know where your coming from I think you will be dissapointed with what it will sell for as a whole package. Having said that you never know and its all about timing. If someone is lookin

I'd strip the car, at least for the bits you want to re-use (probably just remove everything modified seeing as you're doing some bits anyway) and sell it as a standard car.

Thanks Steve - some wise words there. That seems to be the most likely way that this will go but still may be worth a punt on the classifieds at a keen price for when I am in a position to sell it. If no joy there, I'll strip it down.

No worries. I've been there as well - and sold via both routes as well! Although none of mine have been tweaked to quite this level :)

I just feel that trying to shift it as a whole car would be a mistake, IF you're going to choose an FL TSI as your next car. Transferable mods are the way to go here

just to complicate matters, the not all parts from your current car will transfer across due to difference in the TSI engine Ive written beside each whats ok and whats not (AFAIK):

  • Full K04 conversion with Revo software - Not compatible
  • Quaife ATB diff - should be ok, not certain if gearbox has changed or not?
  • Sachs clutch (fitted with new flywheel) - as above
  • APR HPFP - Not compatible with the 2.0 TSI
  • RS4 fuel valve - Not compatible with the 2.0 TSI
  • ITG cold air intake- Not compatible with the 2.0 TSI
  • Twintercooler - Should be OK
  • Porsche 4-pot front brake calipers with RS4-2 pads- Not compatible with OEM Neptunes
  • Pipewerx downpipe (200 cel cat) with Piper cat-back - Should be OK
  • Eibach RARB - Should be OK
  • WALK - Should be OK
  • Koni FSDs with Eibach springs - Should be OK
  • Goodyear Eagle Asymetric 2 tyres (about half worn) - Should be OK

Yep, good points there Daz. As expected the majority of the engine mods won't work - otherwise there wouldn't be point switching to the TSI :D

Gearbox is unchanged, that I'm confident about.

Completely with you! I look forward to my mid-life crisis

Yup, good points Daz.

I have looked in to this and you are spot on. I am pretty sure Wardy is also correct in that the FL also uses an 02Q gearbox but the cost of removing plus replacing with OEM clutch and diff vs savings of re-use may mean that the economic sense is not so cut and dried....swapping the full gearbox between old and new (80k gearbox for a 0k) would be daft

I'm still interested in the KO4 conversion and the LSD. Please keep me in mind if you are selling them. Its fair to say once you have modded cars to this degree and you know its financial lunacy you still do it again

If its a mid life crisis of sorts and you have the money why not buy a proper weekend car and keep this for the commute?

Some real bargains around ATM and I noticed a nice Porsche (not a boxter but a 911 of some sort, will have a look for the ad) the other day at a surprising low amount (sub £20,000).

You're welcome to a go in mine at the track day in May Mark If you want. Might help speed up your purchase(s) a bit? Hehe

Cheers Harry. I will do that. We only had a short spin the last time we met.

Anyway im not supposed to be spending money I havent got on a car i've got for sale :giggle:

Will do, although the problem that I have is that I don't have the K03 to swap back on and the cost of swapping this and the injectors if I did vs. selling them second hand may mean that I may as well sell the car with the K04 on it even if at stock price with a stock map.

Same with the diff - I may get, say £400 second if I'm lucky but would need to source an OEM diff, pay for ARP bolts and the labour costs. Again, it may simply not make financial sense...therein is the 'big rub' with the more expensive mods :S

I've got a spare car practically in my shed. Original engine, injectors, clutch, flywheel, suspension, 312mm brakes, OEM diff, K03 turbo etc. Pretty much everything that has been replaced.

If you needed any parts I'd be willing to help you out.

Wow, cheers Harry - that may make the difference!

Or Mark and you get the two cars together, and swap bits over. Mark gets the K04 etc, you get his K03S etc etc :)

I did this with one guy when he was selling his modded Fabia, and we met up at Jabbasport

Cracking idea.

That could be very do-able  ...and my own newr VRS could be the doner for the OEM diff/crownwheel

Wayheey!

Sounds like it's all coming together nicely! :D

You lot are a bloody menace

I'd rather get hold of the spare parts from Harry and keep mine in reserve as I have all the standard parts for mine (except the back box) just in case I need them. Could always arrange a deal with a garage to take off your bits and replace with the standard parts I bring while at the same time fitting your parts to my car  (its not as complicated as it sounds honest)

If your serious drop me a PM about prices, time scales etc and I will think it through. For me it will be timing. Ive got the house to finish before the 2nd nipper comes along in the summer.

Having said that you know what im like and cant resist when it comes to modding the car. After experiencing Harrys LSD I really think it should be a must if your going past stage 1. Looks like im not selling my car after all

So what do I need for the KO4 conversion? Just the turbo and injectors?

How much estimated labour costs for the LSD?

My spec below:

Evolution Motor Sport (EVOMS) Induction Kit

Evolution Motor Sport Engine Cover

Milltek Turbo back resonated exhaust with sports CAT

NGK Iridium Plugs

ECS Dog Bone torque arm bush insert

VAG Upgraded Diverter Valve

Audi S3 Intercooler with pipes where needed

Audi S3 Front brakes 345mm

Audi S3 Rear brakes 310mm vented

Audi S3 Short shifter

Koni FSD Dampers

Eibach Pro Spring Kit

Rear Anti Roll Bar

WALK

APR HPFP

Sachs Performance Clutch

Shark Stage 3 Remap

You need:

Turbo

Injectors

Up rated intercooler (I have the S3 IC)

S3 injectors

DV relocation

New charge pipework from the turbo housing

Software

That's roughly the basic outline to go k04. I don't need to waffle about brakes and suspension as you've already got that covered :)

I had my LSD installed by Jabbasport for the cost of ~£400. They did a top job and sorted out some issues I was having with my gearbox at the same time. Highly recommended for the job.

TBH I haven't even ordered the replacement VRS yet so this would be some time in the future. I think that your plan is good although it would probably make more sense for me to buy the KO3 kit from Harry and have it shipped to me. That way JKM could inspect the bits before replacing on my car. It also means that they could inspect the K04 bits before shipping to you. If any don't make the grade then neither of us are left with labour costs for nothing.

As Harry has pointed out, the cost of removing a diff will only be slightly less than the labour cost for installing. Given that I would have to buy e.g. Harry's OEM diff and crownwheel and that I doubt I would see £400 or much above for a second hand one, this may not be financially sensible for me. Diffs seem to be more of a 'one way' mod.

I am going to do some mathematics tonight as there will be a cost to me in making the car standard even if offset by the money that can be recovered in selling the bits. I may as well try to see if the car will sell 'as is' after subtracting those costs and creating what might be a bargain.

The diff is going to fit into the same catergory as the clutch.

I always assumed if I return to standard I would leave the clutch in due to cost.

But seriously the LSD will cost just as much to remove as it will to fit? So in round figures £400 to remove, £400 sale, £400 to fit. Thats crazy money :@

Dont get me started on thinking about a swap of cars

  • Author

I'll check what I paid for fitting tonight when I get home. However, I had mine done at the same time as the clutch so the LSD was more or less included in the clutch labour cost.

I have actually already committed to buying another Quaife for my planned car....must be a pretty good vote of confidence in what it can do if I buy the LSD before the car! :giggle: There is a great group buy over on Mk5 GTI at the moment but closing in the next day or two

Have you got a link please? I'm not a member of that forum.

Edited to say ive managed to eventually find the GB and register and post a reply (it was a total nightmare, must have taken me half an hour). Hopefully someone can help me

What gearbox have I got?

Which of these products is the right one to fit? http://www.quaife.co...ts/taxonomy:399

I guess I need QDF16R?

Can anyone confirm that please? (Muckipup, Harry) And sorry for the highjack Muckipup

That's the one mate.
