Yup. You can see what I have ordered. The manual gearbox on the FL is the same as the pre-FL Mk2 (02Q box) I believe...or I bl00dy hope so now :giggle: . PM me if there are communication problems as I am swapping PMs with Dan (the GB organiser on MkV GTI) and he will close the GB tomorrow or Saturday but, please, only if you intend to go through with it. This is the best price we will see a Quaife and ARP bolts for a long time

  • Thanks for the quick responses folks. I fully take the point about not getting the money back for the mods but I have to be honest and say that I always knew that this would be the case. It was done f

  • No, like all modding there is an element of lunacy...financially it is a lot of lost money.....but I am 43, spend 2 hours per day in my car, was forced to drive a Fiat Multipla by an ex-wife who then

  • Nice car. I know where your coming from I think you will be dissapointed with what it will sell for as a whole package. Having said that you never know and its all about timing. If someone is lookin

I'm not that kind of person. If I say i'll do something or buy something then I always keep my word.

I'm thinking about it ATM. I know its the best price possible but its still £1,100 fitted and I really havent got the money :@

I'll be very honest with you, Mark. The Quaife is a great mod if you are the kind of person who is happy to get a bit of speed around corners and happy to get the power down coming out of a corner or happy to get the power down on roundabouts (particularly those smaller ones with bumps in the middle :giggle: ) perhaps even with the traction control switched off to stop the system cutting power to the wheels . I can tell you that it is great fun! . If anyone tracks their car, it is almost a 'no brainer' in my opinion

However, if you are not in to that kind of thing or simply just don't have the opportunity with your everyday driving then the Quaife, like any LSD, will just sit there silently - you wouldn't know it was there.

For anyone who has to get a clutch fitted then the cost of the Quaife is effectively the shelf price plus the ARP bolts (£700 ish with the group buy) but for you it would be £1000ish. I would say it is worth £700 if you do the driving I was mentioning above from time to time; I would say it was worth £1000 if you do the driving I mention above quite a lot or would be happy to get in to it knowing you have the Quaife; I would say it is worth £5 if you never do this kind of thing.

For that reason it was worth every penny for me LOL

I do need the LSD. I dont often do that kind of driving but even just setting off or just putting my foot down (especially in the wet as you would expect) can just wheel spin and light up the traction on the dash. Harry will know what im talking about

Whats particulary annoying for me is I only did the clutch just B4 Christmas, but thats just bad timing.

I will be making a decision this afternoon.

So far likely costs fitted are £1,140. Still got a couple of people to get back to me with fitting quotes.

I hope it works out Mark. Traction off the line is certainly a problem even for unmodded VRSs as you know. The Quaife will help but only if it can 'find' traction on one side where it can't on the other. Where the power is simply too much for the road surface/tyres it is certainly not a miracle cure.

I really must do a video of me launching my vRS just to show off how good they are, especially in the dry. Do it Mark, it will make it so much better to drive.

Im gutted but I cant justify the expense :wall:

I have too many other priorities :( Ive sent Dan a PM (hopefully) explaining why I cant.

Now i'm going to stop reading before I change my mind :S

Understandable Mark - like many mods, the Quaife is a luxury rather than a necessity....a very nice luxury but a luxury nonetheless

Noooooo!

Not another one selling up Dave?

Disaster :)

Traded mine in for £6k in the end, but did make some money back on the mods that made financial sense to remove. New owner (whoever it may be - still waiting for someone to appear on Briskoda) still got the clutch, exhaust, S3 intercooler etc etc.

If a classified ad appears I'll give it a thought - my Accord is officially BORING.

Accord in boredom shocker!

;)

i miss my octavia.....keep looking at them on autotrader :wall:

I really didnt like the facelift at first, but its really grown on me. And the performance of JKMs TSI vRS is phenominal!!

On your case, id remove the mods, you'll make a fair amount more money out of it.

Afraid so, Tim - I love the car but fancy a change and have clocked up the mileage.

I just bought a Quaife on the MkV group buy.....just need to find a manual VRS to put it on. Lol

Sy - I think you are right. I would be able to have the two cars side by side for a while so could swap some things but not as much as I would like.

It would be a shame to sell her Dave after all that cash and time you've spent on her :(

I've just fitted my K04 setup and mines just turned 112k (write up coming soon), it's great fun

I'm my own worst enemy, Martin. There is no reason why this car will not go for a long time yet and I love it. Hope you are enjoying the K04 too - what software are you running?

It took me a little while to adapt my driving to make the most of the K04. I love the way it can be driven normally and feel very powerful but safe but drop it down a gear and 'floor it' and it is very Jeckyl and Hyde

I'm running DNA software and still need a few tweaks yet but I can feel the potential. I think the tyres will be wearing out considerably quicker :S.

I've not had time to fully try it out yet. I started on Friday night and finished on Sunday morning, had to dodge the showers lol.

I will look forward to hearing how it goes

Well done for doing it yourself. Welcome to the elite club ;)

Well, my new VRS arrives in a couple of weeks so the time has come to make a decision on the current car.
