Sat nav with speed camera database. Illegal in france and germany?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've read that radar detectors are illegal in these countries. Does this include sat navs with a speed camera database insalled but no radar detector installed?

Many thanks,

Dan

Certainly now illegal in France, Tomtom have removed all the French cameras from their own safety camera database in a recent update.

Yes illegal in Germany as well.

Thanks. I've read that even if they are not enabled then you can be fined. Is this right?

Hope tomtom speed camera package is cheaper now.

Not just fined, but the equipment seized and destroyed.

Although how they could do that to an in-built system hasn't yet been worked out!

TomTom have replaced camera positions in France with "danger warnings" There is a good explanation on their web site.

I thought it was illegal in Switzerland, not Germany?.

I had a built in detector system in my old Peugeot 406 Coupé The only thing visible was about the size of a cigarette pack inside the car.. Even though it was switched off I nearly lost it once in France.
