Vrs injector recall disaster advice really would be appreciated

Featured Replies

Could be Emma, although mine tends to just do its normal regen cycle. Only had the actual light come on to tell me I need to do a proper purge maybe 5 or 6 times in 4 anda half years. Once was due to an air sensor failure and the rest due to some muppet over filing the engine oil at a service. Proper ammount put in after dropping the old oil out and hey presto no problems.

Well mines been mapped and it think this is causing problems with my DPF, Last night i was at a car meet which was on the A19, to and from the meet there was a good 20miles of motorway at *ahem 70mph :p so youd think the DPF would of been clear but when i got back home, did about 6 miles around town it was starting to block up again.

I last checked my oil about a month ago and it was fine, yes i know i should check it once a week but i struggle to remember what day it is 99% of the time!

What's miles have u up?

On 62k

Car going into dealer this afternoon.

How did you get on this time? I'm extremely concerned by the number of people that seem to have problems after changing over the injectors and the lack of a clear resolution. My car is running fine at the moment (as far as I'm aware) but it's only just about to hit 30K and looking through the record of injector failures on the foreign forum in the VOSA thread, it seems injector failure seems to happen at higher mileages so I could have problems later on.

Ur better off getting them done or it will be very costly down the road, also they won't run the recall for ever.

I got mine done 4k ago and have had no issues at all touch wood :)

So.... dealer can't reproduce a rough cold start. They confirmed what I already knew that there are no fault codes stored.

They have marked the dipstick at the current level (bear in mind when I checked this when the car was on a level surface and had been off for hours, it was well over max) and want me to carry on driving it for 500 miles to see what happens to the level. If there IS diesel in the oil I'm concerned about a detrimental effect on lubrication and damage to engine components - is that a valid concern? There could well be the best part of a litre of diesel in the oil.

I think it needs a sample of the oil testing tbh. I have said I will have the car back and video every cold start until it starts badly. On past form this should be achievable in a couple of days. I'll post the video when I've done it.

Nick, I would think you would now this so I'm not trying to tell you what to do.

Have you thought about removing some oil Via the filter, half a litre should do, put in a clear glass jug filled with water, leave for a while and it should separate

oil, diesel and water ( don't know in which order it will sit )

That's exactly what I want to do. Problem is - towing the line with the dealer, they've specifically asked me not to add or remove any oil, so the level can be monitored over 500 miles.

Ok mate, no problem, just a thought.

Nick, I've been where you are, I too was advised not to mess with the levels, but now I regret not taking a sample as the dealer then swapped out the contaminated oil so I've no idea if long term damage has been done.

It took me a long time through pure persistence to get them to acknowlege the cold start issue. I remember checking the forecast daily and going to all sorts of lengths to get my car into the dealers for an overnight stay so they could start it in the morning.

The weather is too warm for the cold starting issue now. You can see all of my video's that I shot from January/February this year that I posted on Photobucket so that they could be viewed by Skoda technical support. I'm still not convinced its fixed, the problem is I won't know now until next winter by which time the car will a year older with another 20K on it and another year further out of warranty.

I check my oil level weekly now and if anything it drops over time. I never thought I'd be happy knowing my car burns oil!

I've picked up my car and agreed that I will upload a video and send them the link of it running rough if it does it again. Some cold weather on the way supposedly, so if that is an exacerbating factor, hopefully it'll do it. On the subject of the oil level, the mechanic I spoke to said it was entirely possible they topped it up when it was in for the injector recall, particularly as they were aware how bad the oil leak from the rocker cover had been. He couldn't confirm for sure if this is the case though. I really hope it is though.

But that would mean that they either didn't check the level before topping it up or have over filled it, both pretty inexcusable for a main dealer.

Fingers crossed you don't have the same issue as me!

When I checked it on Thursday, after carefully fully cleaning the dip stick and doing two readings to be sure, I observed the level to be over the max line and up to the top of the little ball bit. I have to concede that the dipstick on the PD170 is ridiculously poor, making misreading quite easy. However, I was careful and I don't think I misread it. The mechanic today said he observed it to be exactly on maximum when he checked it.

I will check the level again for myself tomorrow on the level at work. I think I will also photograph it.

Agree with the Dip Stick, who in there right mind would invent a Black Dip Stick for checking Black Oil. A Dip Stick maybe :giggle:

Especially when the top of it is already orange!

I wonder if it needs to made from a certain material to cope with the heat?

But anything can be made of coloured material surly

I don't see what was wrong with the old really easy to read metal one with a hatched area for the acceptable range, like I had on my old PD105.

I didn't think they were allowed to give recalls expiry dates? There seem to be a large number of people having trouble after getting the injectors replaced and worse yet none of them seem to be getting resolved so given my car is running well (not a single DPF issue) from this side it doesn't look like I'll be better off for now

John

Well it was my vag dealer that told me that recalls don't last for ever,

And nick the next 2 mornings are ment to be very cold if u want to video ur cold starts.

Started pretty well this morning. Listen for the little bit of roughness around 6 seconds immediately after it starts. It very quickly stabilises and idles normally though. On previous occasions it has stayed rough like that until I blip the throttle. No untoward smoke noticeable this morning.

EDIT - video swapped for a much better one taken the following day.

That starts way better than mine!

There was a strange lumpiness immediatey after you released the key though...

Do u not give it a chance to heat u just turned the key straight away,

Nice steering wheel but it that a vw badge in a Vrs :(

I'm sure I'd read somewhere that the glow plugs don't even attempt to heat up above a certain outside temperature - not sure how true that is though...
