Lower Arm Bushes

Featured Replies

Hi,

My VRS passed its MOT on Monday, with the following advisory

'Both lower arms, rear bushes have a slight detoriation and play'

I assume he means the wishbone/lower control arm?? The tester stated that it was a two piece bush and there was a mod with a solid bush. Can anyone confirm which one it will be and where do I order a modified replacement. He also stated that it was begining to wear the tyre slightly too

Thanks

RAG

In MOT speak arms are going to be drop links? The rear bushes will be the rear console bushes. Droplinks you can either fit standard/after market versions, someone Miela? produce a heavy duty drop link for about the same money as OE. As for the bushes Cupra bushes are solid but Fabia ones are also revised/uprated now. If you're going DIY then consider the Powerflex bushes as they're the easiest to fit and don't require a mechanical press or major ball ache to fit. Have a look in the technical guides section for a step by step guide and a break down of your options.

The Cupra/Powerflex or any other non rubber bush will be a little harsher in terms of transferring vibrations than standard but people rarely seem to be that bothered by it and I suspect those that are have another vibration related issue anyway.

Meyle drop links are heavy duty - And good.

I actually also fitted some Meyle HD console bushes - And they've also been pretty damned good so far! Thought i'd give them a whirl instead of the cupra ones and i've been pretty impressed with them.

If you want to maintain a smooth ride with no vibratioins, then stick with the original Skoda parts, otherwise you may end up removing the solid bushes like I did.

SK10 4RJ familiar?

Same here fitted a pair two weeks ago all good, also did the drop links.

Sounds like the MOT tester is reffering to the console bushes.

I had Cupra bushes fitted last summer. Didn't have issues with vibrations. Icouldn't really tell the difference, mybe a slight increase but that's all.

However, have had creaky bushes since the day they were fitted. Really bad over speed bumps and the lovely roads we have here in West Yorkshire. Silicon lube would cure it for a few days only for it to come back.

Got so fed up with the creaky Cupra bushes that the car is in the local VAG specialist today having the Cupra bushes removed and the uprated Skoda ones fitted.

Mine failed on this reason today. Not a happy bunny

Could be worse, I went to do the job at the weekend and rusty nuts halted play, waiting for a nut splitter to turn up now then breaking out the big guns (compressor, impact wrench and blow torch).
