Rumbling noise front left (I think)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have just changed my wheels on my Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDI from the standard 14" to a set of 16" Skoda Sports Alloys.

When driving to work, i noticed a rumbling noise coming from the front left, also felt this through the car, at times it got quite loud and at times....it wasn't there. I thought at first this could just be Tyre noise on the road and me not being used to driving with low profile tyres, but at times it is fairly loud, sounded as if it is kind of flat. I didn't notice any noise more specific noise when going round corners but will make a point of listening for this tomorrow.

Also, when the car is parked, it seems i can move the front left wheel forwards and backwards (it squeakes to) alot more than the other 3 (fairly non existent).

A friend suggested it could be my brake pads and discs are they are probably in need of changing but I don't see why this would make a noise?

I have also checked for clearance of the alloys and the calipers and also the wheels and suspension and all have enough room.

Does anybody have any ideas what this could be before I take it to a garage and waste my money that probably won't solve the problem!

Thanks in advance.

It could as simple as the tyres making the noise, I've got the same problem with my current tyres. The inner edge is worn on them, and they make a horrible rumbling noise. I need to get a proper 4wheel alignment done.

I would suggest that you stick on your old wheels (maybe just do the front two) and take it back out for a drive, see if the noise has gone?

Oh, and if possible, try and stick on the old wheels from the exact corner they came from!

Ok, so if it is the tyres, what would explain being able to move it forwards and backwards with a squeak?

maybe there's a mouse in there :p

There was no poo deposits but ill be sure to plant some cheese close to it to see if that gets it out...haha :D

if it will move then got to be bushes. Common problem.
