Engine cutting out when warming up

Featured Replies

Hi

My father inherited my 03 Fabia when I got another car and it's generally running well but he's had a puzzling fault for a bit now - when the engine's warming up it cuts out occasionally. It restarts straight away but will do it again after a short while. This doesn't happen when the engine is cold or at normal temperature, only when it's getting there! Any ideas what this could be and how to resolve it?

Thanks :)

Hi fabiagirl,

I bought a 03 Fabia with the very same symptoms a few weeks ago. Great when cold or at normal temperature but pretty nasty at all other times.

The problem as I discovered was a jumped timing chain (the car had around 58k on the clock), apparently a very common problem on all the HTP engined cars. The solution was to fit a new timing chain kit. A bit of a grizzly job but afterwards it runs perfectly.

I'd read many accounts of people spending £100s on new sensors without curing problem.

I hope this helps.

try giving the throttle valve a clean mate - made a world of difference on my 1.4mpi

no longer cuts out or judders roughly at traffic lights or when starting!!
