Cornering fogs on 61 plate vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all

Got the above mentioned car which is in the dealers at present. Asked them if they could code in the cornering fogs for me but they have. One back and said this function isn't available on my car.

I was just wondering if there is a certain requirement or spec to have this on a car? I've read it's available with VCDS but if the dealer says its not a function on my car who do I believe??

Thanks

Neil

Thanks for this. I take it is possible from reading this but it is done through this VCDS thing

Neil

I think so, Vectra_1 says his dealer managed it but I think that the majority of them don't know how so default to the 'it can't be done on your car I'm afraid'.

There is a thread somewhere that details all of the VCDS owners that are willing to help and their locations. A few beer tokens is usually all it takes!

Thanks for the info silver

Yes, Dealer did it for me.

I can inquire as to what settings were altered if you wish?

Cornering fogs are completely pointless and look daft so don't know why anyone goes to the trouble of getting them enabled.

my dealer did them.

Seems strange that some dealers can get th to come on and others can't. If you could find out what the settings are that would be great.

I think it's a individual's choice as to whether or not they want them activated and I find the helpful on the twisty lanes around where I live

Agree it's an individual's choice but it's just one of those things people do because they can rather than it actually making a material difference. If your headlights don't provide sufficient brightness then I suggest upgrading your bulbs then you get the benefit all the time not just when you're going round a corner.

If it didn't make a material difference then I don't think the function would be there. The headlights are bright enough for going forward but the position of the fog light throws more light toward the corner of the car making verges and gullys at the road edge more visible.

Only on a couple of occasions have they proved useful for me - once one manufacturer does it they all follow suit!

Hey thanks very much for this. Will show it to the dealer and hope that they can do something for me.

Thanks again.

found them to be useless on my Octavia but much bette ron my yeti - must be due to higher position of foglights

Possibly. I currently have a seat courteousy car while mine is in the dealers and the seat has them activated. Must say I've seen the difference around where I live.

+1, I've tried them on a Seat Ibiza and a Skoda Yeti, they were more beneficial on the Yeti (the fogs are mounted higher up) but they were still effective on the Ibiza.

A good chuck of my driving is at night on twisty pitch black country lanes. Here they are very useful.

I assume the 'haters' are mostly driving along lit roads?

Nope I drive on unlit roads too but never needed anything but good headlights and mainbeam

Headlights and main beam can't see round corners and they project a good distance ahead of the car.

I have xenon's too which are great - for medium to long distance illumination.

The cornering fog lights help to illuminate the kerb and hedgerow in addition to the area you are turning into that isn't covered by the headlights.

Agreed they aren't the be-all-and-end-all but to me they certainly aren't 'completely pointless'.

I've driven on dark roads with fog lights on in the past to see if it makes a difference but it really doesn't much in my opinion. Headlights do the job fine

Any additional illumination is a bonus in my eyes.

Neither of my Octavia's have the cornering foglights activated so I can only assume they are a little more effective on the Ibiza and Yeti.
