gauges

For anyone considering the triple-DIN mod, consider taking the light feed from the illumination dimmer on the stereo. Makes sense as the wires are right next door.

They are very pretty... a lot of want.

  • for everyone tapping into this and that for power, why dont you all just wire it from under the steering wheel. Theres a row of 5 nuts in a block that splits the cars power to CCU and relays ect.

  • I got one of these, didn't fit straight away had to file some of it to make it fit.

  • here you go. PS not my car anymore!

I used the ashtray illumination feed to light my gauges.

They're VDO gauges from a Golf mk 1 / 2 or Audi 80 or similar.

Would you not be better with a switched live from the headlight switch so the boost guage only lights at night??

Thats what id like, if theyd only light with headlights on but still work fine in the day

ANY addition to the cars electrics even as small as gauges should really be wired and fused from here. see here...

the nut under 447 relay is the ignition power so any thing wired to this will come on with your ignintion. (this is labled with a yellow sticker too) Simply fuse from this and earth the gauges accordingly. TBH, i find this easier than fannying about with OEM loom wires trying to find whats what.

Yeah but that means the guage will be illuminated all the time??

I want it when the lights are on? Oem stylee??

The ones I got came with red/orange illumination, not sure if you could get green as standard in an early Golf though.

The newer VDO Vision gauges come with different colour diffusers so you could have white, red or green illumination.

only if you wire your illumination wire to it. All depends on the gauge/sender. My gauges being digital need power to make them work so i need to wire them on all the time as well as my sender. Alot of analog gauges also have electric senders also and these will obviously need to be wired to the ignition. you then run your illumination wire to the ash tray light n such likes.

Sweet ill wire it to where you showed then pick up a switch from light somewhere :)

I did notice the vdo do green diffusers ,

What sort of psi would a stage 2 revo being running? Just curious how much boost gauge would move

I ran mine off 1 of the wires on the headlight switch so there on once the ignition is on then when lights on they turn green, and I'll say the boost is really easy to fit but I looked all mine up before I done it and write everything down even doing the air/fuel ratio I looked into!!! Just research it all fella I had my gauges fitted and wired first, once they were done I done wiring for car and spent an hour fitting them in, but I did have problems aswell just try to overcome it fella but were all hear to help

The most difficult/awkward part is running the wires or vacuum hose through from the dash to the engine bay.

Lol cheers mate, i'll come running to brisk crying then :D

Ive had a awesome briskie offer his help too, and he is full of patience " sweet "

Yh just make sure u run the vacuum hose somewhere cold mine got hot and melted :) so got more pipe and re run it round front engine I'll be happy to help if ur near :)

could you use some kind of forge silicone blue pipe for the boost gauge??

Nice I like the silver wrap gonna get me that and do my centre dash :) and yes u can use blue silicon hose as long as its small enough to fit over the valves!!!! And a 3 way t piece thing for in engine bay but you normally get that with gauge

Thats the one mate, silver carbon is the way forward...... Thats the 3m stuff to so very good

You'll have it done before me mate, i sence a slow project , im also in the middle of a carbon wrapping some of the car with black carbon ;)

i likes carbon me

ok

so this is my plan

1 oil temp gauge

The included sender has a 1/8 NPT thread, the thread in the oil pump flange is M10 so you will a thread adapter. You could try asking the seller if they have a suitable sender with an M10 thread.

If not, this might do the job,
