Followed Focus RS this morning - the noise, the noise

Featured Replies

If your lookin for noise and you have a 106 rallye i had a rallye engine and a 205 put the rallye engine in the 205 got a full stainless system made up with 2.5" pipe from the downpipe and a 6" back box off ma mates r32 skyline made possibly the best noise ive heard from a car wasnt to loud except under hard acceleration and it popped and banged constantly. Was ma weekend toy.

Well done mate you have succesfuly put a massssive on exhaust on a pile of sh**, as someone said in my thread about loud exhausts......i hope you neighbours are equally incosiderate to you :)

Big exhaust = big rectum!!

2.5 inch exhaust isn't massive and he said it wasn't too loud except under hard acceleration. you've removed a silencer from your car and added a chav valve and you're having a go...

As above, He said its not very loud unless booting it, what's the problem?

Its gpt a 6inch bore backbox? Andvhe claimed that he had a car that was 200dp on anoyher thread so what he says aint loud is probably pretty loud.

On the note of my car removing the silincer has only made it produce a deeper note, and i cant see the "chav valve" staying on long its rather anoyying

Lol if he reckons his last car was200db then his OVER exaggerating so it'll prob be quieter than he says, not louder.

yeh someone pointed out that sound measuring equipment can only handle upto 180db then it breaks.

but you have to admit a 6" backbox on a pug is a "bit" chavvy

(i have a hatred for huge loud exhaust btw, due to being woken up by them on a regular basis)

Oh yeah no doubt a dirty great jap can on a 106 is pretty awful, but I don't think poor taste is overly inconsiderate to his neighbours. I mean mine have a Audi Q3, far more offensive than a crap exhaust aesthetically.

:giggle: fanstatic :giggle:

i just like my eardrums remaning intact....however i do pass a red and white checked mini which is quite aesthetically offensive on a daily basis

This thread was more popular than I expected. I just hope I follow something else interesting into work next week!

Wilson323F - funny you should say if your looking for noise and have a 106 rallye. That is what I bought about 2 months ago, still have my Octy for day-to-day use. My Octy vRS is great but a tad boring (I will post a 'Test Drive Report' next week to expain myself).

My Rallye has a standard exhaust. With limited soundproofting I think it is noisier for the driver than anyone outside the car :giggle:

Although it does make a bit of noise when it comes on cam after 5K rpm

I have a very sarcastic love for people with those stupid exhausts. Lots of noise but hardly any progress. I'm intending to make a collage of the most stupid ones as it really cracks me up.

Focus RS sounds great I think. I have an S4 being delivered in two weeks and the only complaint so far is how pathetic the exhaust note is. Wish it had the focus sound or the old S4 sound. Fine balance between chav and nice I think.

The right exhaust can make a huge difference. My Seat's standard exhaust was rubbish. The Miltek i have on it now is awesome, quiet normally, but amazing under full chat, yet to look at it, you'd think it was the standard exhaust.

I do get amazed how few fast cars actually have a good standard exahust.

My vrs has a rubbish noise as well.

I've got a 3" DP, 100CEL magnaflow cat, and twin 2" pipes cat-back, bolted to a proper Volvo 2.5, 5 cylinder. It's not a loud as you'd think either.

Each to there own opinion if we all liked the same things would be a pretty boring world i personally love the sound of a loud exhaust. And dont have neighbours so didnt have a problem there

As a rs 250 owner for two years, soon change to a vrs, I feel I can comment on the exhaust noise

You are able to change the ecu settings from the car, and change to an extreme mode! This will make the exhaust pop on gear changes!! The noise is fantastic!! Have to say not as good as a rs focus!! A colleague has one in work and he does like to drop the clutch once or twice on the way home!!!

Yeah maybe, but own one for a bit and the novelty would soon wear off on the motorway after half an hour.

Ford actually uprated the liners on the RS engine and the last run of ST's also benefitted from the same internal engine upgrade. They do sound absolutely awesome though. :-)

Can I ask purely out of interest how you know that the liners were uprated in the focus st's as there are rumour's that it happened from april 08 onwards but no one has been able to confirm it, genuinely interested if someone could confirm this as have been looking at focus st's
