Followed Focus RS this morning - the noise, the noise

Featured Replies

My usually boring short trip into work this morning was made a bit more interesting by following a Focus MK2 RS.

I am not sure if the driver was fiddling about inside or it was the diff, but it seemed to jerk about a bit on the road.

It looked GREAT. A real phat look.

Thankfully a car in front turned off so we had to slow down, so it was; window down, into 3rd and hope the RS nails it. Thankfully he (or she!) did. The noise was excellent. To use a phase I read on the forum, I think a bit of s3x wee came out :0)

All I got from my Octy was a bit of turbo whistle :(

A couple of minutes later arriving at the only bit of road which an overtake is safely possible, we come across a slow Fabia driving under the national speed limit (it is still 60MPH don't you know!), I get a bit closer to the RS hoping I am sending the signals 'nail it I want to hear that sound' and thankfully he does overtake, the noise is sooo good. Pops bangs and even about of crackle!

Maybe I should of bought a CAT back system for the Octy instead of a Pug 106 Rallye to indulge my engine noise wet dreams...

Sean.

P.S. Note this is not a road/race post, just an observation the nice noise emanating from a load of metal parts moving about.

They sound epic, don't they? :D

volvo t5 power ftw.. anything is possible with that engine, they are superbly engineered and rugged beyond anything vag have ever made, you can crank 500bhp out of them without it breaking into a sweat!.. its such a shame they stuck them into a $hitbox ford.

I have to say they look quite nice too.

Considering it's a factory model of a front wheel drive family car they are good.

Easy 400+bhp with mods too.

To Autotrader!

Aye. Cracking engine. Loads of videos on Youtube of Volvo T5's taken to crazy power.

They do actually look quite nice do the Focus's and you're right... awesome sound!

Erm, it's not like you drive an Aston.

yeah ford.. aston martin same thing really

Are they reliable? I read nothing but issues when I was considering one something to do with piston liners I think :-/

Edit: was the ST I was looking at

:giggle:

Love the Focus RS. Always been a big fast ford fan boy. Only had 3 fast VAGS compared to around 10 fast fords.

Id struggle to choose between the FRS and Meganne RS though. Tough choice

Torn between a focus rs and a passat cc r36 for the best standered noise.....love them both

I cant say anything bad as I have a T5 as my weekend toy.

Love it to bits 240bhp and looks just like most other estate cars then you floor it........

The Volvo is cheap to insure as well,

I miss that 5 pot off beat warble - fantastic engine the 5 pot. Don't miss the fuel consumption though !!

500bhp? Thats quite a different engine to the one fitted in the ST/RS I'm afraid. 2mm thinner on the steel liners means it's pretty much done by 320-330bhp max and the standard turbo is only good for flowing around 285-300 anyway (on the ST). Ford actually uprated the liners on the RS engine and the last run of ST's also benefitted from the same internal engine upgrade. They do sound absolutely awesome though. :-)

They do look good but from the front they look a bit ordinary for me. Spoiler and diffuser are good though. Thought about the RS but as new RS will come out soon(ish) it didn't seem worth it. Plus 250 is faster

A green Focus RS looks ordinary ? (from any angle)

Each to their own, but I'd choose the Focus all day, in any colour.

I wouldnt say that was ordinary tbh

Didn't say the car was ordinary, said the front was.

Green does look good and sets it apart. Blue looks a bit meh though.

And if you look at the photo that the section of text you have quote me saying is referring to, its taken looking at what part of the car?

My mate had a 59 plate RS, amazing drivers car, any road, any bend, basically anything you put it to it done! Epic car, but started going wrong about 27k, 20k of that was sheer abuse, got tracked, 1/4mile'd & the odd play about on the private roads. Had 3 cats replaced under warranty & just as he sold it ( back to the dealer ) it was going in for a full exhaust & turbo again under warranty. He's now driveing an 06 RS4..... What a car.

Not to make use jelouse but i had 7 drive past me in a row last night :D closly followed by an evo and a r33 gtr :D

There's a gold sparkle in the green paint on an RS. Great when it's new but what happens with stone chips and if it has a bump? Guessing a repair wouldn't be cheap
