Can you replace an Amundsen with a Columbus

Featured Replies

I realise I might be better asking this in the ICE section, but, here goes..

My 2011 Superb SE Plus has the Amundsen Navigation system. Coming from a Kenwood DNX520VBT in our Polo, I kind of miss the big screen experience.

Can I replace the Amundsen with a Columbus (RNS-510)? If so will the Bluetooth, parking sensors and Climatronic stuff all work without any extra kit?

Also, do you think my latest v.8 maps CD would work on the Columbus?

What version of Columbus would I need? I see all kinds of versions and firmwares. i assume I'll need something pretty late for my car.

Sorry for all the questions. Hope you can help!

I replaced it on mine, so yes it can be done and it's pretty easy. You do however need to get a BT Controller because the Amundsen Plus has the BT built in, the Columbus does not.

It will need coding, but climate, PDC etc all work without any issues once it's done.

Cool! Any idea on the BT controller part needed?

I got a Fiscon Plus for my Superb Estate 2011 (With original Columbus, but no bluetooth).

They had to install an extra microphone in the roof because the internal mic for NAVI wouldn't work with the BT.

It works flawlessly, and is integrated with both Columbus + MaxiDOT.

PS: I got it installed by an aftermarket BT-firm and they spent approx. 2 hours doing it. Total cost approx 500 Euros.

Fluffmeister, I don't reckon my Amundsen has the BT built in because under my driver's seat is a Bluetooth phone module... If it makes any difference, my Amundsen is an early one without the HD...

Update!

I replaced my factory fit 2011 Amundsen with an LED Columbus. As I had the separate Bluetooth module under the driver's seat, it was a simple plug and play upgrade. I didn't even need any VCDS changes. :whew:

Took all of 10 minutes to do and it all works perfectly. I love the bigger screen of the Columbus, but in some ways the Amundsen is a little better. I think the unit is generally a bit faster, and the central whirly knob is actually a very good navigation aid rather than just always prodding the screen. But, I wanted a Columbus and that is now what I have.

If anyone fancies an Amundsen with Navigation disk (does full postcode searching) then i'll probably pop it up for sale.

Way to resurrect a 5 year old thread ;)

It's trivial to swap over the Columbus (RNS510) and Amundsen (RNS310) or Amundsen+ (RNS315). You will need the 4 digit unlock codes for both and ideally to correct code them with VCDS.

The only issue that you may have is bluetooth. Some Amundsen+ (RNS315) have BT built in but the Columbus will always use a separate BT module.

If both cars currently have BT you should check both are separate BT modules otherwise you'll need to transfer the module over with the Columbus. It's easy to check with VCDS before you move the units.

So for future ones.

There was no issue to move Colubus form OIIFL to Superb 2010 everyhing worked incl. BT but i had to change in VCDS that Superb kas Volkswagen Sound System as Super had "Sound System" installed after that all worked (choosing Skoda Sound System did not worked.).

Does anyone know what bluetooth module and harness i would needs as my 315 has it built in.

Thanks
