dot 5.1 brake fluid change

Featured Replies

hi guys, just need some info how do you change from dot 4 to dot 5.1 brake fluid? i've refreshed and bled brakes loads in my time but i have never changed it's spec! would i need to drain the system or just bleed it through the system as i would if changing dot 4 for dot 4? any advice grateful.

steve

Just high pressure bleed as normal.

I used AP Racing dot 5.1 for quite a few years then went back to dot4 (Castrol SRF). The castrol I find is much better....

Just bleed it through the system AFAIK. For a road car I don't think there is really any need for DOT 5.1 though.

Thanks for that just as I though just bleed it through, the car is going on the track and will have to cope with braking from 140 to 20 mph so I just making sure the brakes will last as much as they can.

Just make sure you don't use the pumping method! lol

no i have a ezzi bleed system which use the air from a car tyre would this be ok?

Pumping methods fine aslong as you place a lump of wood under pedal so you arent pressing it all the way to the floor ;)
