Hi.

I have replaced my Alloys on my vRS with 17". My tyres were coming towards the end of their life on the 16" and were fitted with Uniroyals rainsports 205.45.16s . They were a good tyre, lasted over 20K with changing them round every so often, hence in the market for another set.

To cut a long story short I did a deal on a nice set of Black 17" Anzio (german made) wheels fitted with 205.40.16. I sold my Skoda ones for a good price which went a long way towards my new ones. They look great. However I 'feel' the road a lot more now, and also seem to get a 'drone' at higher speeds on the motorway that was not present before. I have tried another middle of the road tyre in Falkens Z1EXs.

Any observations, is it the falkens that give me a bit more noise ? Perhaps it was not such a good idea to go from 16" to 17"

I went from 16's to 17's and I think the ride is a lot better and even gone for cheaper tyres this time.

Not had no droning noise with the octy spiders.

Perhaps you need spigot rings for the aftermarket rims??

I went from Falkens to UniRoyals and found a marked decrease in tyre roar (Polo, but same principles). That was on the same size tyre though - 195/45/15

+1 one the drone and noise level from 16s to 17s. I swear no-one else on the forums seems to feel the difference though so maybe you and I are both bit loopy in the head.

It is the falkens, honest !! Only hear it at about 75 mph ! We must have senses of a bat !

15's FTW! Lol.

I've always found that bigger wheels spoil the ride a bit for me. Very happy with the standard fit 15" alloys on mine. Makes a much nicer ride especially if carrying a couple of passengers and some luggage.

Bet they look good though so all is good!
