Bored of my Superb elegance 4x4 170 estate

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Had my superb for just under a year, I'm now debating whether or not to sell it. I can't really fault the car for what it's designed to do however I just find it to be really bland and unenjoyable to drive. I accept I didn't buy it because it was a sports car.

I mainly got it for the dogs as we don't have any kids, my wife has just ordered a Kia sportage so I'm thinking we can use this for the dogs and I can get a fun car.

I'm thinking either a 6 month old z4 or the new Subaru BRZ coupe that's coming out.

From what I see the elegance 4x4's 170 hold their value well, plus I got around a 6k discount when I got it so the losses wouldn't be huge.

Anyone else done the same, am I in the middle of a middle age crisis ? 35 ;0)) am I just being silly?

Hope have a good strong back you will need it with the ride you will get in those two cars.my old boss has just bought a BMW coupe and he hates it sorry, he said he wished he had bought the 353d with adaptive suspension.

You should have bought the Octavia Combi VRS :drunk:

perhaps update the sig

What sort of miles are you doing?

Is cost an issue?

perhaps look at combined use cases and see what works for those before buying the sportage.

Might be 3 cars will work out better than 2

It sounds to me as though you never will be happy with your Superb, so it's probably best that you sell it to someone who will appreciate it. You'll probably have a second look at the Superb when the fun goes out of thrashing around on hard suspension, with the onset of whiplash from all the roaring away from traffic lights! I couldn't drive a car I was no longer happy with if I had the option, so start doing the maths. BTW, you're not "bored of," you're "bored with." :)

It is probably me being a little bit fickle, I need to think with my head if I'm going to make the switch. As I said previously I can't really fault the Superb apart from the fun element, I know this isn't why you buy a Superb in the first place so this is ultimately my fault; As we don't have any kids I'm thinking we don't need two family cars... yet.

A VRS superb would be a nice compromise, was't a fan of the Octavia interior and it's looking pretty dated IMO. Any car I need to get will need a lot of test driving. I know all about BMW's with run flats and don't miss them so I would need adaptive suspension as bill2 stated. It's not all about the hammering it away from traffic lights, more about enjoying driving it around the country roads, once again it's probably me being a little bit nostalgic and once the novelty wears off I will get bored of that too.

Financially the change wouldn't be an issue, I just need to make sure I make the correct choice.

If you want fun, but you also quite like the space and comfort of the superb, buy a used V6. You can find a couple few month old ones for £24K

With a remap and a differant air filter, it's good for around 300 bhp and it's got 4 wheel drive for stability and handling. Mines done around 5000 miles now, and I'm getting 35MPG on a long run, but it can be an absolute beast when you want. Best of both worlds :D

Get your existing car remapped.

I guess it depends what you want from a car and what you've come from.

I am the first to admit that my Superb isn't the first word in feel and handling, but in common with lots of modern cars it has very good roadholding and can be hustled along at a decent pace when conditions suit.

My previous daily driver was a Volvo S40, which, unlikely as it seems was great fun and very playful compared to the Superb, although the Superb does do lift-off oversteer if you are inclined.

We are also lucky enough to have an MX-5 which is lovely to drive - keen and alive as you may expect and great fun to drive hard, and a subtly modified 205 GTi which is just awesome down a B-road when you're in the mood.

Incidentally, we tried a 12 month old Z4 sDrive 3.0i when considering the MX-5. Contrary to opinion it rode quite nicely and had a lovely creamy engine, but felt a bit soft and fuzzy - much more a boulevardier/GT than something you'd go for fun drive in.

Will be looking at the Subaru/Toyota BRZ/GT86 very closely indeed when the Mazda's time is up.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to wait until the Kia turns up and see how well the dogs fit in it, if all fits I've got permission from the lady in doors to look for a sporty car.

Not necessarily looking for the fastest car , one that drives well and you love to take for a spin, justincombo sounds like you have that with your mx5.

Before the Superb, I drove a MT 330i (premium + sport package) and the handling was as good as you'd want it to be on a road car. However I find the Superb a lot more comfortable with the softer suspension and DSG. So yes, the fun factor has been compromised for space and comfort. But again I'm not exactly look to throw this car around like i did the 330i. So I'm happy.

However another option to consider might be changes to the suspension and handling by replacing coil overs / sway bars and such. That should stiffen the ride and give you the fun you're looking for while taking those corners.

I'm back, looked at the Kia and the boot size definitely won't fit a malamute, the dream is over ;0))

I'm just going to enjoy the car I have, I probably would have only moaned about the impracticality of the z4 or other car I purchased plus the cost of fuel ;0))

Get it remapped and stop whining :-)

good point , I may just do that ;o)) the tuning that is, don't think you can take the whining out of me

Remap, get H&R Springs and Bilstein B6/Koni Sport dampers and you will rediscover this car. Family estates can be sporty (Audi RS6).

Swap it for my 2wd one. Please.
