Mufflerectomy next week?

Featured Replies

The back box on my VRS (The Jetex Prototype) has rotted out (due to it being mild steel instead of a stainless one like the actual systems!) Was thinking about just getting a bypass pipe made up for the back box. Who else has this? I've been told they dont sound that great and just sound like a loud broken tractor!!

Help - Anyone got any advice on this??

It depends on what you want. I can't really get my head round them as I've seen and heard a mufflerectory that sounded really nice but I've also seen and heard one that sounded like a tractor! I think if its a standard system they sound ok but if it's missing a middle box it sounds cack. Could be wrong on this though.

Agree with above seems to be very hit and miss. I listened to a few on you tube and they sounded quite nice, but having heard a couple in person they sounded awful, just loud with no tone to them.

Keep the bore diameter the same as standard pipework, and don't go OTT with the size of the exhaust tip either. Mine's not massively loud really, but I agree with what has been said about others sounding awful.

Going to keep the tip that came with the Jetex system - the bore on the pipe is 2.5" - currently doesnt have a centre box. Sounds quote nice just now with the hole in the box! :)

Removed the backbox and took it for a blast - it may sound ok!

I bought a second hand mufflerectomy job off ebay £40 for full exhaust.

Sounded cack found the problem was with the y pipe connection that was on it to make it twin tip, so lopped it off and welded new stainless steel pipe straight through on (£12 for pipe £1.25 for welding rods), can hardly hear it wen just cruising, nice growl on accelerating and faint sound of turbo if you really floor it.

All in all cost me £60 including postage fees, cheaper than got quoted off my local garages. Plus i have full original exhaust in good condition to sell.

All donw - the whole system was shot! So got a complete stainless system - £320 for a single can system - nice note under acceleration, feels like its a quicker pickup through the revs too
