Nasty Noises From Front Brakes.

Featured Replies

Over the last month or so my car has developed a nasty whirring noise from front brakes when applied at speeds of over 40mph. It seemed to start after a weekend I didn't use the car for 3 days. Now I have grooved discs fitted which are not badly lipped. And the pads still look as if they have plenty of meat on them. It seems more noticeable from the drivers side. I know that grooved discs can make noise but this is more of an exaggerated droning noise which some times can be felt through the pedal. Any have any ideas?

Sorry, Cant help with that beyond trying some very heavy braking a few times?

Might wear down the pads/discs a bit to get beyond the point they are at,

change the wear pattern enough to knock out the drone?

had a squealing from my brakes for a while until they wore down abit more to stop the noise.

Been sitting with the foot on the brakes after a heavy stop? Pad residue on disc causing a raised spot possibly.... Feels like a warped disc? Although there is no such thing ;)

Lol I've read that article to Jase. The thing is the discs look as clean as a whistle. Do you think it would be worth trying some new pads?

Usually when they're fubard they're fubard.... If you can live with it then i wouldn't bother

Ive had 'warped' brembo 323's and new pads didnt help! Try a few hard stops on the brakes to try even them out (obviously dont completely stop)

Might be worth a shot, sticky pad. I get it when pads are wearing down, usually my drivers side

Octys seem to be rather bad at warping disks, I have have done it several times, and I don't brake hard or sit with my foot on the brakes either.

Done with both Brembo and Pragis (?) disks....

I'll have a look at the weekend. I'll take the pads out and inspect and make sure the caliper isn't sticking or any thing.

Have you checked the inner face of the disc. Inner side of most VAG car discs corrode and wear badly, if brakes are used gently all the time. Hard breaking now and then solves the problem, an saves getting advisory notes at MOT time.
