Help! Aftermarket HU install (sitting in my car as we speak).

Featured Replies

So, bought an alpine HU for my Fabia VRS (mk1).

I've changed HU's on cars before so sort of know what I'm doing, but im stumped by the antenna adaptor.

The alpine HU came with an adaptor that goes from the 2 Skoda ISO connectors into the back of the HU with some bullet connectors for live, ignition, remote etc. (I've swapped over the red/yellow as I gather is correct).

I bought the antenna adaptor (and foolishly the harness adaptor which it appears I don't need), and on the antenna adaptor I have the main antenna bit, and the blue wire which I believe is for the amplified antenna signal, thus needs to be powered.

On the harness adaptor I bought there was a blue bullet connector, which I assumed this was probably supposed to connect to, but it isn't itself a bullet component, rather something that would go into the back of an ISO block, so it doesn't connect.

Similarly it doesn't seem to fit in the bullet connector for the remote coming from the alpine harness.

Am I being completely thick or what? I'm in the car right now trying to sort it before a journey tomorrow, and its getting right chilly out here!!

Cheers, Chris

Connect it to the blue wire on your headunit think its sometimes got a tag on saying auto antenna ...thats what i done on my octy

The loom that connects into the back of the alpine HU is some weird small one I haven't seen before, aside from snipping the wires I can't see a way to connect it.

Though after some reading, I'm pretty sure connecting it to the blue/white coming out from the back of the HU will work, but still going to need some snipping and changing the connectors somewhere I guess :( effort...

Just get a scotch lock bud about 10pence and you wont need to cut any wires

Ended up just removing the aerial power pin from the loom (sticking a paperclip down to undo the clip) and putting them together as they would've gone in a loom then wrapping it up in some insulating tape!

Getting the bloody cage in was the hard part, and the head unit with all the wires at the back was a pain, nearly had my hand off trying to push them all out the way! Was somewhat easier on my N reg fiesta ;)

But it's all done now, had a minor hiccup as I thought the facia adaptor went on after the cage/HU so had to take the whole lot out and back in again (idiot).

Sounds much better though!
