VRS pd losing power

Fuel filter is every 40k

Fuel filter is every 40k

Really? Didn't know that. Dealer in York told me 60k when I asked for all the parts at the desk - they seemed a bit bemused when I wanted all filters so early as I've done the whole lot at 40k. Car is much better for it.

My buddy is a VW mastertech and said to do it every 40k. He gets me parts for free, so it's not like he's trying to make a few quid out of me lol

Car completely conked out today after losing power when I was doing about 30mph, although it did start 1st time after coming to a grinding halt. I think the only reason it conked out is because I was doing quite a slow speed and the car didn't ' bump ' start itself as the last few times its lost power I've been doing about 50ish so the car has had the ' momentum ' for the engine to restart itself. When it did start it ran for 15 miles with no problems ! Yesterday it lost power 7 times in 10 miles then ran perfect for 35 miles....It's such a intermittent problem I don't think its going to be that easy to diagnose, although I hope I'm wrong !

I'm still not quite sure if the new injectors and the rising oil level are causing it to lose power ?

Car is going into the dealers this afternoon, Farmers skoda leicester. Will know more tomorrow what the fault is.

Had u ever ur new injectors done?

Yes, it had new injectors under recall, last December.

Well the dealers have just rang me up and have told me the injectors are fine, and I have 2 fault codes:

1, ignition switch.................£171.33 fitted

2, lamba sensor, bank 1.....£178.86 fitted

Well its a bit of a surprise, thought it was injectors all along, picking car up tomorrow morning and taking it to a indy garage. It's now going to cost me money but will be a lot cheaper than skoda.

Very unusual faults on a Vrs. Are they 100% sure on this?

Yes my thoughts exactly, and its cost me 36 quid for the privilege....

Would those faults cause it to lose power ?

Hi studmuffin,

this sounds exactly the same problem that i am having, I have changed the ignition switch and nothing they do go but it wasnt the problem.

How is your car now????

My car seems to be ok now, but it Han been a complete and utter nightmare, to the point of getting rid and getting myself a nice shiny ds3....

Well where shall I start....well its emptied my wallet of 530 quid to get it sorted, and that is at mates rates....

This first episode turned out to be lambda sensor and it was replaced and everything seemed ok for 8 weeks, until it broke down in scarbough, 150 miles away from my house, i was not happy....here is my post on that episode.....

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/240118-my-vrs-didnt-make-it-back-from-the-seaside/page__fromsearch__1

My car has been off the 3 weeks and I only got it back last week, its had to have a new fuel pump and relay. It also had a problem with the injector loom, it was shorting out because when it had the injectors replaced ( under recall) the wiring loom was caught under the a cover which was causing it to short out, am thinking of contacting skoda as I have photos but I think its a non starter....

Anyway I hope you get yours sorted, I'm still trying to get the 'trust' back in mine !

I'm seriously, seriously tempted in a ds3 though ( a newer vrs could be a possibility) , I like them, but I would miss the ' punch ' of my pd vrs, decisions, decisions......

Hey i know how you feel on moving the car on it really is a nightmare, i m after building my house so bought a work horse before the octavia to pull a trailer for my house building. it was a 12 year old avensis diesel with 210k on the clock and 260k when i sold it 3 weeks ago never a problem in the slightest, so maybe JAP is the way to go, an nice avenisi t180 would do the same job as an octavia vrs.

anyway f you wouldnt mind maybe answering a few questions it would maybe help me sort mine out.

did the Lambada sensor make much difference???

The fuel pump and relay seemed like an electrical problem you had though.

the one thing i have in common with yours is the injectors were done approx 8k ago yours were 9k, you said the wiring was shorting out the car, im thinking its probably the first point of contact for me id say as this seem to have ultimately fixed your one.

Sorry for al the questions now but when nothing is coming up on the diagnosis then where do you start. dont want to go main dealer yet as they will charge a fortune and probably still have the problem.

Will try and help you as much as I can, but most of my knowledge is off here and my mate. Car drove perfect for 8 weeks after lambda sensor was replaced then it started losing power again. My mate had another look and he said its the worst fault-finding job he's ever had to do, so I think it would have taken skoda a lot longer and cost me a fortune...car seems to be okay now, apart from the odd moment when it seems to ' miss a beat ' .

Yeah, like you I stay as far away from the dealers as they seem like faceless robots who plug your car into a machine, and wait until....' Computer says' ......then off they trot to the revalant shelf for the part, fit and then proceed to empty the contents of your wallet for a fault they may or may not have fixed....

And after saying all that, it still took my mate nearly a week to sort mine out and he's got all the vw kit, so I think if skoda had my car, they would still be looking now...

Have you had your injector loom replaced ? Skoda moved the goalposts about February time, if you wanted loom replacing when they did the injectors, you had to pay for the loom. When I had mine done during December, the loom was included and replaced foc with the injectors. I don't know if the looms are prone or how often they cause problems though, hope you get it sorted..
