Oil colour after 30 miles?

Featured Replies

My 2010 petrol vRS has just had its first variable service after 2 years and 13k miles. The one important job on the list is, of course, the oil change. Drove 30 miles home and checked it out - engine oil is black.......would you assume, like me, that the oil has not, in fact, been changed? (I've already phoned them up and left a message for service manager on Monday!)

Had your vRS been a diesel then I'd say not to worry as diesel oil darkens very quickly, especially if an amount of old oil remains in the sump.

However being a petrol I'd still expect the oil to be slightly brown rather than black after 30 miles...

Is your oil filter nice & clean??

This is perfectly normal on any diesel. If its petrol it should look clear.

Did they change it?

One of my biggest bug bears is the oil change... I wonder how many actually do it?

I dont think the oil should be black on a petrol after such a short time.... mine is like honey after 4,000 miles!

Perhaps they did not change the filter and it has contaminated the new oil... who knows?

Sorry But I would be calling them back and getting a second opinion?

Why 30 miles from York, not impressed with DM Keith?

Why 30 miles from York, not impressed with DM Keith?

I bought it from Benfield Harrogate (having been underwhelmed with the service at Beevers as it then was) and their quote for service was £15 cheaper than DMK. Free courtesy car (a Roomster as it turned out) too. I've used their Wetherby branch to service our Fiesta ST with total satisfaction too. Maybe about to revise opinion!!

Well I would not go there, Andy ( Auric Goldfinger ) had his injectors changed and they left an oily rag on the engine, ( it cought fire) and mantamad, had the same, but he only got 4 miles before it burst into flames and was totalled. He thinks it was the rocker cover not tightened :(

Oh well - with benefit of hindsight....!! Let's hope they agree that black oil is not what you'd expect.
