Need help finding a vRS mark I!

Featured Replies

Hey, recently registered here after browsing the site for the last week or so. Been considering a vRS for a while now and would like to make it a reality and finally purchase 1, my problem is a tight budget and where to look?

Im looking for an 02-04 plate, with a budget of upto 2.2k (maybe a big ask, i know). Preferably no more than 115k on the clock. Willing to travel upto 100 miles of Cambrideshire. Would prefer black but silver is also ok.

I have been looking on ebay and autotrader everyday with not much luck. Also had a browse on gumtree but something tells me I should steer clear of buying anything thats advertised on that website.

Is there anyone out there able to point me in the right direction? Any websites/dealers that may be worth looking at?

Thanks in advance.

Do you plan to modify at all? If yes it may be best to keep an eye out on the classified section on here. Also occasionally unmolested ones come up as well :D.

eBay, autotrader.co.uk, motors.co.uk, local paper websites also a good source of cars

You can post a wanted ad in the classifieds of you join briskoda freedom

there are a couple up for sale in the classifieds on here mate. If your budget was bigger I'd have offered you mine lol

Thanks for the quick replies. Checked my local paper websites and they all redirect me to the motors.co.uk website, which returns no results within a 100 mile radius :wall:

Will have a look and see what I can find in the classifieds on here

Yea I already contacted him about it a few days ago, it sold over the weekend.

Also have you tried pistonheads?? Sometimes have better luck finding good examples of sporty cars on there.

Do you mind a yellow one?

Bit over budget but try and knock them down a bit:

Or what about a 4x4 turbo? Available in silver and black same as the VRS and arguably a better car if you ever plan to go for big power.

I think you'll have to be prepared to travel a bit further if you want one with less than 115k for the budget you've got

I have considered that yellow one but my partner wasnt too happy with the idea of having a yellow car. There is also a red one for sale literally 2 miles down the road from where I live, which I did go and have a look at but was put off by the warning lights on the dash and the car was in a terrible condition.

you'd be better off trying to get one off the forum mate, at the very least you can look back through their posts to see if they've had any issues lol

lol. I'm going to make a mental note to start saying "a friend of mine is having an issue with his car" instead of posting about issues I've had :giggle:

I think it's sad you can get VRS's for 2.5k. I paid 4.5k for mine about 2 and a half years ago now and It's still a hell of a car. In fact even better, cos I had it sharked!

At the end of the day it's a car, I mean mine is on 115k and an 05 plate and people last year weren't interested at 3k (when it was at 100k). Full history, all the servicing, proper parts, premium performance tyres. Don't get me wrong, it's not showroom but it's a genuine car and all I got were jokers. I think the value depends hugely on where you live and what sort of buyer comes along - some will go for good money and others'll go for peanuts. It's not as if they were expensive brand new, I mean what were they, sub 14k? Losing 75% of the value in 6 years isn't great but in terms of the actual monetary value lost it's pretty damn good compared to many other cars - and the great thing is that they're not going to fall much further than where they are as even if they lost another 75% in the next couple of years it's pretty cheap motoring.

I reckon average mileage/condition ones will be going for £2000 within a year, I see some of them around that price already but they tend to be high milers with dubious service history. You really do get a lot of car for your money though. The only thing that worries me is now they're so cheap it's going to be harder in future to find ones that haven't been bought by youngsters/chavs and abused or had cheapass mods done to them which future owners would have to sort out. Still tempted by another Mk1 but my money's on the 4x4 as they don't seem to have had the demand the VRS did.

...stuff...

I hope thats true so i can get a VRS nice and cheap. Its an interesting point...the VRS could well replace typical hot hatches based simply on the fact its so cheap for what it is. I've had young boy racers talk to me about VRS's and they don't seem to mind the skoda badge.

Jay, be patient. You will find one for that cost. There have been some going on here recently which are fantastic examples and you will probably find them in better condition than one from autotrader on the whole.
