DMF Noise

Featured Replies

What sort of noise or symptoms do you get if your DMF is dieing. I have a sort of rattle that only seems to appear under acceleration and always in 5th or 6th gear. I have heard it in other gears but its only once in a while where as 5th and 6th is all the time.

Trying to pinpoint what it is so trying to eliminate all the options.

Many thanks

In my case, it was a problem with starting the Engine; a "Hard Start". Sometimes, it would take 2-3 cranking attempts before the engine started and at other times it would start like a charm at the very first try. Everytime the crank failed to start the Engine, there would be heavy vibration from the Engine compartment and a feeling of Engine is about to die. But never had a problem in the ride, maybe because it was just the begining of the DMF's last days and other symptoms would pop out eventually. I never waited for that time to come though, got it replaced immediately with a SMF.

I dont get starting problems so I am guessing the DMF is ok. Its a really odd one as I cant replicate when the car is stood so need to ideas of what to check.

As its really only noticible in 5th and 6th gear under acceleration and stops as soon as you release the accelerator peddle I am guessing it has to be to do with the gearbox.

Any other problem I guess would be in all gears.

Are there any bearings that are only used when accelerating or any other suggestions are really welcome as really dont know where to start.

Anyone! Really pulling my hair out on this one. Does the turbo rattle if its dieing? Could it be clutch bearings?

Good way to check is slowly depress the clutch and carefully listen for any noise when depressing/ releasing. Also in neutral rev the engine gently to around 1500rpm and listen for any rattles or feedback from the flywheel. If at motorway speeds and low revs it will be noticable if this is the fault mate.
