M4 Wiltshire speed cameras

Featured Replies

Just a warning to anyone using the M4 in Wiltshire - from tomorrow they are putting mobile speed vans on bridges. Full story is here

Isn't that good of them :finger: ....................the junction from my estate on to the main road (A346) has at least one accident per week and this is in a 30mph limit but they wont come and monitor the speed here....no matter how many times we ask :(

Just sent them another email .............well if one unit is here it wont be on the M4 will it :D

There has been monitoring of speeds on my local ring road recently using temporary warning signs which flash up the limit when you exceed 35 mph , and also log the speeds (but not number plates) of all passing vehicles.

Apparently 85% of all cars were speeding (although they did class 31mph as speeding) and some local busybodies were demanding immediate action to clamp down on these lunatic drivers.

Odd thing is that during the month there weren't any accidents. Surely this proves that it was in fact safe for people to be driving at these speeds and that the limit should be raised to say 40mph (as indeed it used to be)?

The accidents that have ocurred in the past have almost all been caused by people crossing the three lanes at night on foot and not using the crossings provided. Pensioners and drunk lads seem to get skittled most frequently.

W**kers, they are targeting the wrong people simply because it is easy to generate cash!

Also note the limit of margin will drop to 71 MPH max over a few days , not the normal 10 % . They are out to catch us all .

Because it's the Times one has to take this seriously - however I can't find reference to it elsewhere, particularly at http://www.safetycameraswiltshire.co.uk

It was on the news this morning as well - BBC site also states that the locations will be disclosed on 13th April so I guess that why it isn't on the Wiltshire safety camera site yet. BBC info is here

Saw some bad boyz, well in this case it was a bad girl, on the M4 west bound between J12 and J13 last night @ about 7:45 with her hair dryer out .........

No , it says that the lowest that they will be enforcing is 79 mph.

You can be done for just 1mph over the limit but ACPO guidelines say that they don't normally prosecute unless you are more than 10% + 2mph.

opps I didn't see that bit.......... though in that case you can set you cruise to 75 and you should be fine lol

ISSUED ON BEHALF OF THE WILTSHIRE AND SWINDON SAFETY CAMERA PARTNERSHIP (WSSCP)

13 April 2005

Launch of Speed Enforcement on the M4 Motorway

A speed enforcement campaign for the M4 motorway in Wiltshire was launched today by Wiltshire & Swindon Safety Camera Partnership.

The partnership started enforcement at seven sites along the 53kms of the M4 motorway in Wiltshire.

Stationed on motorway bridges the enforcement vehicles will target those motorists who significantly exceed the national speed limit on motorways and endanger not only their lives but those of other road users.

See we have gone metric that really anoys me when our measure is in miles!!

My thoughts are education is best and the 7 vehicles and officers would be better ocupied driving up and down the 53km section and stop educate fine speeders and dangerious drivers as appropriate better than taking snap shots and getting the motorists back up.
