VRS Software Update

Featured Replies

I've had my VRS for 4 weeks and absolutely love it. Its a late 10 plate in white with all the toys I need. However, I have noticed that when I start is from cold it runs slightly lumpy when idling for the 1st minute or two. You cannot really see the revs bobbing around too much but u can feel the car physically moving as the engine is out of resonance.

I only really noticed it when the lights at the top of the road catch me so this morning I started it up and let it idle. The same thing happened. As soon as I've done half mile or so the problem goes away.

I've tried to find someone with a similar problem on the forum but all I can find is people talking about misfires but I'm not getting anything like that. I've read stuff about software updates and wondering if this could be required? I'd like to think that this would have been done by the Skoda main dealer but I'm abit weary of main dealers due to past run ins with my previous car and Ford. However, I have only heard good things about Skoda.

The car is booked back in on Friday but if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

if its been serviced since the cold misfire (lumpy cold idle) update was released it will have been done, if not it will be done when the car is next serviced, as its plugged in on-line, and will automatically be updated with the lastest ECU map. :)

mine was done at its last service, and is noticable smoother on cold idle after....

Thanks for the speedy reply. So this is a well known problem and there was a specific update to solve this problem? Do you know when it was released so i can check it against the service date.

cant remember, but several months ago, and yes, its a known update, cures the lumpy cold idle :)

sounds like nothing major then. Mine has its 1st service last August so I guess it missed out on the update. Finger crossed the dealer will know this and it should be a head ache free visit. Thanks again for the info.

I've rang the dealer today after they have had my car since last night and its not good news. They cannot find the source of the problem. They are going to keep it over the weekend and start again on it on Monday. They say that its not throwing up any error codes when they plug it in and they have checked for updates. They are thinking that it my be the injectors. Apparently they are getting in touch with Skoda to try and get to the cause of the problem.

I'm not very happy atm but hopefully all will be well early next week and I can get it back as they have no hire cars available for me in the meantime. Fingers crossed!

Stick it in " S " and plant foot

Mine actually did this but it had no detrimental effect on the cars performance in the nearly 2 years I had it.

Moderatley yes we have had most customers saying it's better but still not gone.. have to wait for the winter to come back round to see how better the new softwear is

So it sounds like a lot of people have this problem but are just living with it or have not noticed it?

I've still not got mine back yet and sounds like we are no closer to finding the answer. The dealer is saying that they are getting in touch with Skoda to try and get to the bottom of it but if its fairly common then wouldn't Skoda have heard this from another dealer?

The dealer is saying that they get in touch with Skoda to find a solution and after they try it they give feedback and get an alternative until the problem is solved. It makes sense so they can build up a central database so that in the future all dealer will no all the solutions to all the problems. Reduced fault finding times mean reduced labor bills.

There has been numorus cases of this, mine even does it and mine had it's first service and according to the build date of me VRS the softwear has already been updated therfore dosn't require the update on first service, however it still has the occasional missfire on cold mornings, but dosn't happen when moving or putting any load on the vehicle its litterlay just on tick over for about 1min max which i can live with.. what i don't want is new softwear that may change the compression ratio or fuel/air mix into the engine to reduce or smooth out the missfire because i fear it will effect the overall perfomance of the car, so ime sticking to the motto "If it aint broken don't fix it"

I've got it back now and they are saying that they all do it. They say that it is the car checking its sensors and setting it self up for the current environment at that time. Which sounds like abit of a cop out but I can live with it. Apparently there is no error codes or faults coming up and it is fully up to date.

Right ok so why does it need to do that when every other car dosn't need to?? sounds like a load of B/S.. but ye i can live with it also might have summert to do with how it run's being a 1.4 @ 180bhp it's classed as a high perfomance engine so the cam's will be steeper then say a normal 1.4 and when racing cams are installed it can cause the same effect abit like the porsche911 sounds and run's like a bag of cack on tick over but pick the rev's up and she transforms :)

Just to add - mine had "the update" a while ago and it didn't fix any of the engine problems at all. It still stutters on cold idle, clunks on pull off (DSG I presume) and there is a really annoying stutter under load. The latter of which Skoda themselves have said "they don't know" to the dealer so now I'm stuck with it.

Ah well. At least you have reported the fault now and they will have it on record so any future problems should be covered even if out of warranty by a small ammount.

phil

True. My car is ex demo, was 6 months old when I got it, with three year PCP. So it'll be 6 months out of warranty until the PCP runs out. Unless they do something like recall the engine and replace it, I definitely won't be keeping it a day longer than I have to. It's been a pain in the ass, only made up by the fact that it's a great looking car and a joy to drive. The build quality is just laughable. It's a shame.
