Wipers playing up - now stopped.

Featured Replies

Hi folks, hope you can help with this one. Just bought a new (secondhand) fabia 1 blackline. Driving home in the rain - switched on the wipers - all OK for a few sweeps of the screen and then nothing. Completed the rest of the journey with this as an intermittent fault.

The rear wash wipe works. The front washers work. Just no front wipers. Checked out fuse 15 which looks OK but will try a swop with another. Could it be a bonnet switch I have read about elsewhere on Briskoda or something else.

Your thoughts on this very welcome.

Other than this it seems to be a great little car!

Had this problem a few weeks ago on my Ibiza tdi 130. Your problem is almost certainly a seized wiper arm mechanism. Over years water can corroded the linkages a seize it up.

Mine was seized on the passenger side wiper just below the splined shaft where the wiper arm attaches. Try lubing this area with a spray grease to get you going also spray the other linkages through the slots in the plastic cover.

If this doesn't work you'll need to dismantle the whole thing and clean a lube it which isn't a hard job.

The problem is now fixed!

Following several posts on Briskoda relating to the Central Electrical Module and problems with wipers, I decided to try this as my fault checking had eliminated most other common problems. I managed to pick up a secondhand unit off eBay and fitted this. This has now cured the problem and all is working again.
