Tyre Pressure Sensor

Featured Replies

Tyre pressure sensor came on tonight - wasn't 100% certain that's what it was but that was my best guess until confirmed by manual - tyres looked fine but checked the pressures as well - all ok! No idea why it came it but any repeats and I'll fire it into the dealer (it says in the manual that it'll flash if it's faulty).

Try recalibrating the sensor by pressing and holding the button next to your handbrake.

Cheers - aye, recalibrated it last night - didn't know you had to do this after checking pressures (?) until I consulted the manual.

Seems an unnecessary gadget - if you have a sudden loss of pressure in a tyre you'll know all about it! Had a tyre knocked off the rim by a pothole last year - fortunately at low speed but immediately felt the steering yank to the left.

I am not sure the manual states that after every pressure control the TPM is activated. I think I've checked pressures a few times without any warnings lighting up. Probably after the control some wheel had just a little different air pressure from the others and that activated the warning.

I disagree it's a useless gadget as it is ultra-sensitive, detecting possible air loses way earlier than you could start feeling them in the steering wheel so it could potentially save you from having to change tyres mid way in a trip.

& from November all New cars (new type approvals) will be required to have TPMS

(just another potential expense or MOT failure thing on cars by the time they are 4 years old or more)

but,

Too many people never ever check their tyre pressures and now its even more the case that they think they dont need to. JMO obviously.
