Engine Fans come on as soon as Engine is Started.

Featured Replies

I think my Octavia MkII PD VRs may be poorly.

I have been Informed that to may be the Fan Control Unit which has failed.

Symptoms are:-

Fans kick in on start up and continue to run after the Engine has been turned off.

Expensive to repair? Will it be covered under Skoda Extended Warranty?

Will a scan reveal the problem?

Part Number?

Thanks, Andy

I had similar when I first had my Octavia. Will try and dig out paper work to see what part was replaced.

thanks for that

i think i remember seeing a thread on here somewhere recently about this, i think the guy had to replace the fans as the controller is built into them

will see if i can find it again

Check this out, sounds similarhttp://www.briskoda...._1#entry2684600

This isnt another problem caused by your recent dealer visit is it? what did the car go into the dealer for last week?

Don't think so, it was doing it before but until I found out about the Unit failure I never gave it much thought. I assumed it was just the Air Con.

But if you lift the bonnet then start the car the fans start to spin at full speed, sounds like an aeroplane taking off. Turn off the engine and they wind down.

Somethings a miss and I was wondering if it's safe to run it, don't want to ruin the fans

I had this on my s2000 it was caused by a faulty radiator fan switch, about £20 off eBay, not sure about where it is on the octavia. Symptoms were fan turned on from cold when ignition was on, it was stuck in the on position..

Just a service, MOT and a Air Con Regas.............

Auric, have you got this problem fixed?

I have a similar problem - my fans come on when the a/c is on, but go off when Econ mode is on. The a/c has also stopped working.

My independent has diagnosed a faulty high pressure sensor / valve, which is being replaced tomorrow (along with a regas of the a/c).

Is your a/c still working ok?

I thought if you had the air con on the fans always ran, but I may be wrong. They shouldn't run at full speed constantly though. I know that if your fans are faulty (i.e. won't run at all) the air con won't turn on.

True, but now they come on full-tilt when a/c is on, regardless of engine temp. I think they are working OK as they only come on when stationary (i.e. no flow of cooling air), but it appears as if the fans think something is hot (a/c compressor?) and come on to compensate, when in fact all is cold.

I guess that as cars are so complex these days, with lots of interrelated systems, the same symptoms manifest for a large number of problems...

Cars in on Friday, they seem to think it's the Fan control unit.

I'll keep posted,

Looks like the problem is a High Pressure sensor within the Air Con System, part ordered so they are keeping the car till monday as I don't need it.

@ least now I can "Borrow" the wife's Vrs for over the Weekend
