Inside noise of the 1.9tdi/105hp

It's not road speed related .. I am annoyed by the vibration and noise also inside the city, when leaving the stoplight and anytime when passing 2ooorpm the growl is making me look at the revmeter and could not relax and drive quietly. When driving on some rough surfaces, the tyre noise overcome the engine, then I feel better and use the throttle as I should use it, that is up to 3ooorpm or even higher to feel the turbo. But again, when driving along a highway, the combination of tyre and wind speed are of no importance, even at 150kmph .. what is disturbing is the level of constant noise and growling when accelerating coming from the engine into the cockpit. Unfortuntely now I know that the octy2 is a great car by all means except by the chapter of silence confort. Guess the 1.9tdi/105/PD is responsibile for that, I've heard the 2.otdi and all petrol engines are smooth and quiet. I'm looking now to some d4d toyota's or even the dCi of the renault, which are more pleasant to drive (as an engine).

I own a 1.9/105/PD and have driven a 2.0/140 for a number of weeks. I found the noise from both engines to be similar.

There does appear to be a problem that is specific to your car.

and do you consider this engine quiet and acceptable when revving (accelerating from 15oorpm to 28oorpm) and when driving on the highway with 3ooorpm?

I would like to get your feedback on this matter .. your personal experiences with your octavia II 1.9tdi/105cp .. did you get used to the rattle of this engine while accelerating .. or maybe is it a problem with my car? while driving on a highway with 3ooorpm are you satisfied with the level of sound?

From my experience, up to 130 km/h if the road is fine the noise is rather low but I drive from time to time from Poland to Belgium and vice versa across Germany where there is no speed limit and I can step on the pedal and from 160 km/h the noise is quite bothersome and from 180 even if the road is as flat as glass you can't stand the noise, I'm quite disappointed therefore...but...I cannot drive 180 km/h quite often, in Belgium it cost too much :D so...I do not care much about it...

The conclusion is that the octy2 is a great car and everything, but with a dissapointing control of vibration of the 1.9tdi/77kw(105hp) engine. Having a 0,3 air design, functionality, bizonal climatronic, looks, confort (phisically), all of this could be blown up for sensitive years drivers (like myself), if you can't drive with 150kmph without the sensation of 'turning up the radio'. I agree that driving in the range 110-130kmph is good, but revving in the first gears and then over 140kmph (while in Germany of course) are somehow not totaly confortable because of the vibrations. Btw, have been in Belgium, Holland, France and Germany with a VW Bora tdi and did not suffer anything of this 'symptoms' under 170kmph.

Have just done some tests. At between 2500 and 3000 rpm there is a pleasant engine growl , not loud but indicative that it is doing some work. Even up to 4000 rpm the engine noise is not intrusive.

I am on my third diesel car maybe I am just used to the sound of a diesel. On the other hand a comapny Cavalier SRI (Opel Ascona) which I had for a time had a gearbox that made a simialr noise, rather sporty actually.

Could this be resolved by modifying some engine parameters in VAG-COM? I found out that the ECU of the car is making some self modifications for every cilinder and it's injection in order to keep the engine balanced. Maybe this control is a little off in my car and I should find a specialist in VAG-COM to help me smoothen the engine parameters. Also, I'm thinking of a chip-tuning .. maybe in the process the parameters will be optimized.
