How hard is it to fix an aux MP3 adapter?

Featured Replies

I've got an 04 Fabia TDI Elegance with the Symphony Stereo and I'd like to use it with the MP3 player on my smartphone.

So far I think the best looking product I've found to do this is one of these: http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/connects2-ctvskx001-skoda-fabia-octavia-aux-input-to-oem-adaptor-interface-p-8760.html

My question is how hard are these things to fit?

Is the connector for the CD changer in a fairly accessible place?

I don't mind doing simple things on my car like bulbs and oil changes, but I'm not especially skilled mechanically so I don't want to try to fit it if it involves dismantling the whole dash or something.

It's on the back of the radio - sorry, but isn't that obvious?

You'll have to take the radio out - Kenwood extractors are easiest to achieve that.

Thanks for the pic

I figured it would be, but I wasn't sure how hard it was to get to the back of the radio, or remove it.

I think you'd have a problem getting in there around the side - extraction should be the easier option.

Cool extraction it is.

Where is the easiest place to route the cable out?

I wouldn't know not having fitted one. It depends where you want the socket I suppose.

Sorry to jump in in a thread.....

Can you use a simple aux lead to link up an iPhone?? (sorry but i don't know anything about these standard stereos!)

It doesn't have one on the front of the Stereo.

If there is one on the back I would happily use it but my understanding is you have to use a CD changer adapter because it doesn't have a normal aux.

Awesome, exactly what I needed to know.... Have to use a connects2 type lead.... Boo!

Cheers dude

I'm interested in doing this too, but as mentioned above, where do you run the cable out? Is it easy to run it into the glove box? I can't see how you'd do it without making holes.

Also, can you still use the CD changer? I'm guessing that when it says "Once Installed Press CD Button Twice to select adaptor" this also applies to select back to the CD changer?

Does anyone have any answers? Cheers

Looking at the eBay adaptor posted earlier, the plug replaces the CD Changer one - so you wouldn't be able to use the CD Changer too.

It replaces the CD changer with the Aux in plug so can,t use both.

I use to be an ICE installer. There are several kits out there depending on what you want to retain or use with the radio.

The problem with most of the kits is you still have to control the ipod or mp3 player from the unit - so mounting the connectors for them in the glovebox isnt a option. The Connect2 kit deletes the availability to use the cd autochanger, but very easy to fit - you will however need it mounted close to hand as it does required you to select your tracks on the ipod/mp3 player.

If you want to retain the autochanger then the next one up is call the I-connect-FM - which takes power from the switched & perminant on the radio, and goes between the radio and its ariel connector - meaning you use it like an fm tuner, but with a hard wire so there is no drop in quality of music

Like so:-

The next step upfrom that does 2 things in one - handfree bluetooth kit along with aux, USB & ipod connectivity which you can hide away in the glovebox and can control through the adapter units screen

This is a Parrat mk9200i kit - no adapters required its all just plug and play - (took me less than 25 minutes to do these usually including removing the glovebox and drilling the back of it and fitting a rubber gromit with the cable pushed through.

Cheapest kits start at £30 - the parrot kit is £200.

Hope that helps??

That pretty much answers all my questions and I appreciate the post

Anyone wanting any kits - I can still get them all pretty cheap!!!

I have a connects 2 aux adaptor which i have to say was quite easy to fit ( I am not that mechanical either)

The box sat above the stereo so the natural route for me to take the wiring was out through one of the switch blanks. I cut one up a bit so that it would slip in and out easily when the radio was put back in (the switch blanks cost about £1 from the skoda dealers) Then from ideas suggested I bought an aux adaptor which I fitted into a different switch blank so that I have a permanent neat aux socket in teh dash. It works a treat. Below is a link to th ethread with pictures

I got a cheap £25 kit off ebay. Fitting was easy, hardest bit was getting the stereo out as its a tight fit. I removed the glovebox to push from the back, this also reveals the perfect place to earth the mp3 adapter thingy:) best of luck!
