Battery drained

Featured Replies

A month ago the battery in my Roomster 1.2 TSI SE was too weak to start the car up, it had only been used for short journeys in recent months so wondered if that was the problem. I charged the battery up and drove a couple of 120 mile trips, all was fine. Three weeks later the battery is completely flat having not been used in that time. So I suppose something is draining the battery when not in use, any likely otions? The car is less than a year old.

A couple of people have had problems with faulty, or badly-adjusted switches on the glove box lid. The lamp remains on while the lid is closed.

After leaving your car standing for a few hours, open the glove box lid and check if it feels unduly warm inside.

I put my phone on movie record and put in the glovebox and shut it. On playback I could see the light stayed on, my fix was just to remove the bulb.

To re-fit the glovebox switch is a radio out job. I don't miss the glovebox light at all so never bothered fixing the switch. The problem is the switch comes off it's mounting and hangs lose.

Thanks but unfortunately I don't seem to have this problem - my camera went dark when I closed the glovebox; indeed the light turns itself off after a short while even with the glovebox left open.

If the car is still within the 3 year warranty period , why not let the dealer sort it out. These things can be expensive to sort out. I had my glovebox switch sorted under warranty, but no way was it draining the battery. I think it may be something more serious.

If you were leaving something switched on which used more current then that could drain the battery, but usually with cars these days when you turn off the ignition then everything goes off with it.

I had planned to take to the dealer but just wanted to see if there's anything obvious to look at. Anyway, it's at the dealer now and they can't find anything wrong. Apparently I should be using it every week...no I'm pretty sure I've left it unused for longer than 2 weeks before - when away on holiday for sure. So any thoughts on how long a battery should stay charged when not used? My old car was OK after going away for 6 weeks at a time and never gave me problems over 10 years of ownership - I suppose newer cars have more going on when the car's not in use? The old one did have a car alarm.

Spoke to them today - now think I have a faulty body control module. None in stock unfortunately!

Glad their doing something about it. Lets hope when its fitted it puts things right, and you enjoy your Roomster.
