Fuel Protest, make your voice count!

Dont forget the current rises in diesel arnt to do with the tax levels, its to do with the price of oil on the market. Sadly though this seems to be affected by scarmongering, lies, gossip, and any small war happening across the other side of the world! Any tax increase is relatively small compared to how much oil prices are rising.

I don't buy that. This government brought taxation on diesel in line with petrol, and then past it. Any rise in crude oil prices should have just increased both fuels, rather than suddenly making one more expensive than the other.

I heard one politician claiming that US demands for diesel for generators during a cold winter was the reason for the latest increase. I'm pretty sure this is a lie too: isn't diesel created from crude oil in this country? The international market is for crude oil, not diesel.

Wish they would price the buggering stuff per gallon again so I could understand it.

Thought that was brilliant. The time when the whole contry was bought to its knees not by a nuclear bomb but the time there was no petrol :hilarius:

Think we are a held by the goolies with petrol

When you consider that diesel is actually a WASTE product from the refining process for petrol, you'd think it would be a lot cheaper wouldn't you

Thats what I always thought but didn't dare voice my ignorance.I thought you started with sludge type crude and diesel came before petrol in the refining process

Official fuel protest site, they are looking for a million votes to take to government to complain on the ridiculous tax (around 75%) we pay on our fuel. We could be paying

I'm fairly sure 'stupid' is more apt than 'prudent' when talking about Brown.

No, he's definitely not stupid. The word you're looking for is "deceitful".

It would be interesting to see a similar graph for diesel.

In most European countries' date=' diesel is cheaper than petrol. Over here, it's the other way around. Labour claim that diesel engines pollute, but there are ever-toughening EC laws governing emissions.

Of course, the real reason they've whacked the price of diesel up is that it earns lots of money. Unfortunately, it also encourages overseas haulage companies to fill up in France, which makes the hauliers in the this country uncompetitive.

It also means those left-hand drive trucks (which are increasingly responsible for 'side-swipes' on cars on motorways) aren't paying a bean for the damage they do to the roads.

Derv used to be cheaper than gas here for years......then Derv vehicles got popular.........then the price rocketed.....

Of course it was all down to the particulate and emissions issues....but soon that will be overcome.........will the price (or tax, or whatever) be reduced once this occurs....?

Nope - I doubt it.

Diesel prices have only really rocketed in the last 6 or 7 years.

That is because it is a growing market.

10-15 years ago, nobody wanted the terminally slow and very noisy CI engines in their cars. Petrol was cheaper as well.....

Now we have very refined, responsive (and powerful) high speed CI engines and petrol prices are high....therefore ppl want efficiency and opt for a real workable solution for economy. But the government clocked it...

Get ready for WWIII once oil supply runs out and everybody is lunging for the remaining limited supply.

Good job' date=' too. Diesel's nasty polluting stuff that should be banned.

:redhot:[/quote']

Not for long. They're getting there.
