Duel mass flywheel

Featured Replies

How's this for dealer customer care,

Phoned local skoda dealer in Preston 4 a quote on a 4 piece clutch kit fitted and cam belt change first quote was £1150 all in told them I had a quote for £700 from a local vw specialist they told me they would phone back in 5 after he had a word with a manager come back with a price of £800 all in so I decided to go with the main dealer. WHAT A BIG MISTAKE

Anyway car went in yesterday they fitted the cam belt then I got a phone call saying I needed a new flywheel (I already told them I wanted a 4 piece kit) an extra £560 but would do it at cost £496.

Wht are dealers playing at he swears blind that he never quoted for a 4 piece kit so it's left me in limbo. Last time I go to Aaron dealer they are all liars and bully's in my eyes.

Tell them you agreed a price and that you're not going to pay for a DMF when that wasn't what you asked for.

What engine do you have? Skoda do a single mass flywheel kit for the 1.9 PD 105.

On the DMF front, skoda do a kit, which comprises both a DMF and a clutch kit and IIRC retails around the £400 mark.

If you want a price, just phone up another main dealer in the UK and ask for the price of a DMF and Clutch kit (Together as a single part number) for your car.

It sounds to me, as if they garage in question is trying to add the parts cost, on top of the price they quoted you.(Although I could be wrong)

If RRP is £560 and they're giving you 10% off that price, you can be sure they're also making margin on that, as dealers get much more than 10% discount on parts.

IMHO do not feel bullied into paying up, and remember that if you called them, then you should ask them if they have a recording of that call to back up their side.

I also think it's worth asking them what the book time is on a clutch change.

(Hopefully somebody on here can confirm exactly what it should be, but I very much doubt it's not going to be 6 hours and £100 an hour, plus £200 for the clutch.

For What it's worth I had DMF/Clutch problems in the past, and had my dealer fit more than one DMF clutch kit inside of a working day. That also allowed time for them to phone me up and ask did I want the clutch doing and send me some pics of it's surface.

At the end of the day, if they start playing strong arm with you, then just get a solicitor to write them a letter.

If you do end up having to pay, make sure you write paid under protest on the invoice and keep a copy for yourself.

Then if you feel you need to you can start legal action in the smalls claims court if you need to.

Please note I'm not a lawyer, so you'd need to check all of that side out with out.

I'm running a octavia vrs 2007 2l dsl, I've read on some threads that people have had a g60 fly wheel and a vr6 clutch but I'm not very clued up on this and wouldnt know how to start and look for these parts.

I have also heard about the Valeo kit that's on the market @360 ish and prob £200 for fitting but again I don't know if it's a good kit.

Dealer not budging about the 4piece kit price so no option but to look else were.

Thanks for your advice and having a meeting with the dealer MD next week to air my thoughts

You won't have the G60 fitted to a 2.0 TDI, although you can get some Single Mass Flywheels now.

I think Valeo or sachs have started to do a proper SMF kit for the 2.0 TDI

Have a look at this thread I did a while back, on the back of my experience with failing DMFs:

In terms of the dealers kit, no they might not do a 4 piece kit, but you can get a discounted (on the price of the two parts) kit, which contains the DMF and the clutch. This shouldn't be the sort of money they're asking.

I hope they're not trying to stiff you for a load of costs.

I might be wrong, but surely all SMF kits will be 4 part? If changing the flywheel from dual to single mass, it will require a different type of clutch, so all 3 parts of the clutch (clutch plate, ressure plate and release bearing) will have to be supplied along with the flywheel itself.

Mike

I am pretty certain (from my experience over the last week), that an SMF needs a different clutch to a DMF, the two are not compatible.

Sorry what I meant to say was that while they might not do an SMF kit (Which you're correct needs a different clutch) they will do a new DMF and Clutch kit at a discount from the price of the individual parts.

The SMF I have seen for the 2.0TDI are lightened, which isn't a good thing in terms of vibration and the like.

If they do a standard mass version for the 2.0 then you're trucking :)
