What Boost Pressure vRS

Featured Replies

As per the title. What boost pressure should a standard and mapped vRS run at? I've just got my Torque App and bluetooth dongle. I was sold the car as it having a revo stage 1 map but have no paperwork to back this up so just want to confirm if it has or not.

around 10psi I think. 16 - 20 for a mapped one

Yep anywhere between 9 and 11 psi for a standard VRS

Torque will probably say a peak of 30-something at first but once you take off 14psi for atmospheric pressure that gives you the right figure.

Well either these things are not that accurate or I have problems. On my way home my boost has peeked from 13.5 up to 19.8 is this normal?

Sounds about right for a remapped one.

Phew thought I had problems then. Did a scan and no fault codes either. The only problem is I've used 1/4 of a tank of petrol in 10 miles lol.

You must have a holé in the tank then lol

Lol. I'll check in the morning.

Well its very strange I couldn't get my car to boost over 12 psi this morning? This may sound a strange question but as I've never had a boost guage fitted in any of my other cars I've never really worried about it before. But what should I be doing (driving wise) to get the car to peek boost?

Put your foot down lol. It should hold boost better up hill (don't ask my why lol) It should hit a peak boost then slowly drop as you go up the rev range.

Best way to do it IMO is to put it in third and just floor it from 1800 revs, it should hit peak boost at around 3k revs, then (if it's running right and the map is good) it will drop down a bit but hold at a few psi lower than peak, this will stay all the way up to 6000+ revs.

If you've got a bit of time to kill have a look at the boost logs in this thread:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/233329-crazy-boost-pressure/page__p__2747119#entry2747119

If you've got VAG-Com yourself you could log the boost in that and compare it to what you're seeing on the Torque app.

If the car drives noticeably different today then I'd maybe fault code scan it and check whether you've split a vacuum hose (e.g. the little one under the inlet) doing these runs.

It doesn't drive any different today but just wasn't boosting the same as yesterday. Ill try what you said later if I get a chance. I think I will check all my hoses at the weekend just to be sure any way.

does any1 know or under stand which PID to use to read the MAP sensor? Torque seems to be calculating this based on several other sensor values and i am wondering if that could explain why sometimes values go a bit funny.

that and given the fact you have to substract the barometric pressure? does the me7.5. ecu have an atmospheric pressure sensor then?

(help, too many questions?)

Wouldn't trust that torque app 100%. Set it upto my car and said i only had 60bhp when gunning it haha! Boost read at 13psi where as my boost gauge shows 20psi.
