LE vs FL vs Octy 3?

Featured Replies

its a 55 litre tank so I worked it on that. Obviously if you reach 600 miles before running out of fuel it will be more than 49mpg.

OK yes you're right, allow a couple of litre's left in the tank at empty (Even though the car says 0 miles left) and maybe a litre or so of breather space at the top of the tank when full (I have checked my fuelly and most of my fill ups are around 52/53 litres) so say 52.5litres (@4.54 litres to the gallon) = 11.56 gallons, therefore 600 miles divided by 11.56 gallons is 52mpg, near enough.

Nothing wrong with the PD.Strong, simple, reliable and very economical.

I'd his friend slates pd engine he obviously doesn't know a lot.

I doubt he's talking about the entire PD range of engines, but the PD170 specifically. There are some issues that affect it alone - chiefly DPF and also injector issues. It's the only PD engine that runs piezo-type injectors (hence the recall). Also the PD system was never designed to have a DPF fitted.

So I can see where this logic is coming from. There are reasons why I went for a PD140 :smirk:

Returning to the original question, and knowing what 2nd hand values are like - I'd go for a CR FL now. As has already been said, some dealers are asking more for the LE vRS CR, than the FL - madness.

I'm not gonna go into too much detail about why the PD has been slated (not fair when some users reading may have one, and in any case my mechanical knowledge isn't up to most of what I've been told). Suffice to say, my buddy is an experienced VAG tech who works on their engines day in, day out, so I'm gonna trust his judgement.

In any case, I want the nice new interior so PD is out on that basis too :p

Have looked at them a bit more and am leaning towards the LE now. Would need to get a Little bit more out of one of my target dealers but next step test drive. Just thrashed the nuts off my petrol though so don't wanna be getting in no oil burner before that grin wears off.......

If the OP doesn't like DRL's then he should rule-out the Octy 3.

At the moment DRL's are only compulsory on cars requiring type-approval from beginning of 2012. So cars like the FL Octy have them - but they can be turned off.

Come Octy 3 time there will be no option to turn them off - they will be a requirement.

So rule the Octy 3 our of your choice if you hate them that much.

Don't recall saying I "hate" the DRLs - just that they look tacky, which I stand by. I also said they were not as bad as they are on other cars.

Unfortunately there will eventually come a time when I have to have them on my car but in the meantime would prefer to avoid them. What's so bad about that?
