need to find speedometer

Featured Replies

i got a 1999 1.6l 5 speed manual gearbox glx skoda octavia and i need to fint the speedometer sender or sensor

does anybody know where it is on the gearbox, how many wires goes in it and what colour the wire that goes to the intrument panel is on the plug at the speedometer?

i know that it is green that is in the 32pin connector at the dash panel but there is no green wire visible goin to the gearbox

thank you for your response

blue\white wire gives me around 10v when driving and doesnt change

but i had only power on one of the other 2 wires, the black one, the brown is dead and doesnt give me anything

is the sensor dead or is it something else?

i also checked the power on the green at the 28 pin connector and it is the same 10v there

back lights are ok

The brown wire is connected to earth, the 'black one' is +ve and the other is the signal wire.

The signal is digital. The sensor produces a pulse for each revolution.

The wiring seems OK, so the most likely cause is the roadspeed sensor. The only way to check if the sensor is producing pulses is to lift the front of the car and rotate the roadwheel by hand.

but i connected a wire to the blu\white wire and ran that one in the car and connected to voltmeter and it shows stable 10.04 volt when driving around

do i need another kind of meter or does this show that my roadspeed sensor is bad?

The voltage does not change in proportion to the roadspeed. The sensor produces a short pulse every revolution. At normal roadspeed you won't see any change.

Rotate the roadwheel SLOWLY over at least one revolution - you should see a change (pulse).

f***, changed the sensor and still nothing, any ideas will be appreciated!

Take the sensor out and drive it with an electric drill. If that works, then the drive for the sensor in the gearbox is broken

is that repairable or does that meen a new gearbox?

The drive gear inside the box will have split off the shaft.

Let's hope that you just missed a wiring fault.
